Hi Dis Friends,

Question for you. My parents, who are FL residents, are joining us for a Christmas trip this year. Our family has APs, but my parents don't, so I instructed my dad to purchase park hopper tickets through MDE, which he did. I can see the tickets assigned to him and my mom in the app; however, he also received, in the mail, plastic cards (imagine credit card size) that say "exchange certificate," with instructions to bring those and a photo id to a ticket counter upon arrival. We are all staying onsite together, so we will all have magic bands. Given that the tickets are already loaded in MDE and that my parents will have magic bands, do they still have to go to ticketing with the exchange certificates? I'm assuming that this is b/c it's a Florida resident ticket, but they bought tix back in January and didn't have to do this. The only difference is that, b/c they are snowbirds, the current tickets were mailed to a non-FL address. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks, Michael--this is what I thought, but hoped wasn't true, as I'd just like for them to be able to bypass that step. Ah, well. I'm betting that my dad just thought that he was purchasing FL resident rate tix back in January, b/c I know for sure they did not have to go through this piece then.

Florida Resident tickets not attached to package must be proved at guest relation. If he purchased a package back in January the hotel would have verified his residency. Sometimes ( not always) the hotel concierge will very residency so he might not have to stop at the ticket window if he is staying on property. Also, if he is staying on property he will be able to use his magic band and will not need the cards at all. I am a Florida Resident and go through this constantly because we do not buy annual passes for Disney.

Not all snowbirds are a Florida residents. He would need to spend 6 months plus 1 day a year to file homestead exemption and maintain residency.

Of course this is separate from Disney’s verification process.

Disney does not go by homestead exemptions. They only require that you own residential property in FL. The link I provided above shows what Disney will take to show proof of FL residency.

Exactly. I didn’t say it had anything to do with Disney’s process. I said not all snowbirds are FL residents.

They actually are Florida residents, but you're right, many snowbirds are not. Thanks all
