hi everyone. We are doing a big family trip in 2019. We are all active duty military and my brother is a Florida resident. I’m knowledgeable in the military discounts but not in the Florida resident discounts. Any on-site would be helpful in terms of what the discount tends to be (I know it may change betweeen now and then) and if the Florida resident is better than the military discount can we book three rooms in his name?

Thanks.

You can book three rooms in your name at Shades of Green (MWR Hotel). Only Florida residents and their accompanying minors (children, grandchildren, niece or nephew, etc.) can get the FL resident ticket price.

It’s best to call and ask about a particular resort you are interested in and ask for both FL resident rate and military rate then compare. The FL rate and military rates are not always available for all resorts. I know some off site only allow a certain number of rooms for military rates and others don’t offer it in peak season. If not SoG, I can usually find better rates in Orlando off site vs on Disney property.

I just googled and read for Florida resident, at least one Florida resident must stay in each room receiving the FL resident rate.

So how many folks in your group will have the FL resident ID will determine the number of rooms you can book.

At SoG, you can book three rooms per
Military ID. So I can book three and my husband can book three as we are both retired from AD. So we each hold our own eligibility. SoG rules state the person holding the ID must stay in one of the three rooms. I have only booked three rooms at most before.

We're both military and Florida residents. The military room discount is usually better than the Florida resident discount. For at least 8-9 years, the military discount (rooms subject to availability) has been 30% off at Values, 35% off at Moderates, 40% off at Deluxes. Florida rates are generally in the 20% range, but sometimes we can get a Florida rate when we can't get a military rate. We've been able to book multiple rooms with our military discount at the Disney resorts.

The current military ticket is a 4-day park-hopper for $226, I think. Right now there are special Florida resident base tickets for like $169, but they are only good this Spring and aren't offered every year. So depending on how many days we want to spend and whether we want to park-hop or not determines what kind of ticket we get. But, you wouldn't be eligible for a Florida resident ticket - every adult has to provide a Florida ID. The military tickets will be your best option.

Last March I got a 4-day Florida resident for myself and a 3-day Florida resident for my daughter (she had a day left over on her UCA cheerleading pass to Disney) and that was a better deal (for us) than the military tickets. We are not avid Disney visitors anymore. Usually it is connected to a cheer competition or a relative visiting. Last year was to celebrate my daughter's birthday, but now she doesn't want to go anywhere without a friend. Mom is no longer cool and Disney "is only fun if her friend can come." LOL. We are going to Universal next weekend (this Weekend is Cheerleading Worlds at Disney) and she is bringing a friend. Good thing most of her friends have their own passes to come with us.
