Florida for 1 week???

I don't think I'd go for a week but we are going for 12 nights in September. We both take a day or two to acclimatise and I really hate the jet lag so it wouldn't be right for us. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't be ok for you.

I agree with several of the other replies, try and get a deal to stay onsite - you'll save time on travel and money on car hire.

I can see why people would think one week staying in Disney would be good, but I would be sick of the mouse if its all I saw. Orlando has so much more to offer.

I fully agree. It is difficult to plan a 1 week holiday though, it is just impossible to see everything, I think the suggestion was made just to attempt to keep the costs down.

We have never done 7 days but just did 10 days over Christmas as DH was restricted on time he could get off work. Obviously we would have preferred 14 days but 10 wasn't that bad we still felt we had a good amount of time there and got to all the parks we wanted to. :flower:

Just my opinion but do you have to have a villa? And a car? Why not try and stay on site or stay at an I-Drive hotel that provides transport to the parks. We have done that both times and, yes, it is a bit more restrictive but you can certainly save money that way.

This would be something maybe I would look at if I wanted to go for 2 weeks on a budget. We have had villa holidays for he last 10 years or so before we went to Florida but because we don't drive over there we had to stay in a hotel and I must admit although I missed the facilities of a villa I enjoyed staying in a hotel.

My first trip was for 8 nights and I'm doing 8 nights in May. I'm lucky - I'm a dvc member now, which helps a lot. I wouldn't do lots of other stuff tho - i will mainly be doing disney and relaxing at the pools and stuff.

We economise by getting an annual pass - not an option for you now maybe - but in the future. For me it is good, because i a getting into the parks free on this trip - paid for the passes last year. If you are mostly just doing disney why not stay on site in one of the values? U could always also add the dining plan, if you eat at least one nice sit down meal per year it's worth it. Do you really need a car? If onsite, you can get the magical express for free, or a town car for cheap. Also, if you would prefer a villa have you considered renting points from a dvc member? Check out the dvc rent/trade boards on this site.

It really is a personal decision - i never understand the people who go for two weeks then cram every single tourist attraction into that time, instead of taking time to chill, but that's their choice.

If you didn't go for a week - what would you do instead and how much would you spend - that's definitely a factor to consider. Also, if you went for 1 week this year - would that prevent you from having a longer trip next year? Only you can decide.

Most of my visits have been for just one week but then I tend to pick really quiet times of the year to go. In October 2002 we did all 4 Disney parks, Blizzard Beach, both Universal parks, Seaworld and a day at the beach. The rides were a walk on though which helped, we were done in the Magic Kingdom by 1pm. Get to the parks early and use fastpass and it can be done.

We are going back the same week this year :earsboy:

Oh and it is totally possible to do it on the cheap, just keep out of the shops and eat offsite, we did it on that trip and hardly spent anything apart from the theme park tickets. Luckily I hate shopping (apart from souvenirs) so it wasn't difficult at all but I'm aware that a lot of people love to shop til they drop.

I would do a week if it were the only option. When we go back My AP is up for renewal, and my OH thinks he is getting a Ultimate ticket, but I have a plan to get him an AP as well so we can go back again, even if it is just a week.

This is really difficult because I am American and we just do things so differently. I've been for as little as four days and had the best time. With me its just a matter of money. The thing to remember is that you have to limit what you will do. Just remember you will come again! A week to me is really a luxury. Just as an example, land and adjust maybe get some food for the room try out the pools plan for the next day. This leaves two days for magic kingdom, One for epcot, one for animal kingdom, one for MGM and one to go home. You don't need to stay in the parks for an entire day. You can skip a park. YOu can go to universal instead of MGM. Sea World is great too. THe important thing to remember is quality not quantity. No, you will not get the ambiance, but this is about seeing micky, New york is about ambience and culture, as long as you can do it without rushing or stressing it could be great.

We have been several times and apart from one holiday have always done just a week. It depends what you want to do as to whether a week is long enough.

I would say do research into what you want to see first and then decide whether you can fit it all into a week.

We went for 1 week on our first visit.....we found this to be an excellent 'taster' trip.

We did 3 Disney parks and SeaWorld, and plenty of shopping !!!...... it gave us a really good grounding for what we wanted to do on our next trip.

Go for it ! :sunny:

Can't add any more to the advice to help keep costs down, but can add that I would say a definite "yes" to "is it worth it for a week?"

Most of our trips have been for two weeks, but DH, DDs and I went for a week's trip over NY once, stayed onsite and went into commando mode to see/do all the Christmas / New Year attractions and had a great time.

I went with just my mum for a week and we managed to visit all WDW parks plus SeaWorld and Kennedy Space Station, and still took it all at a fairly even pace - it did take some planning, though ;)

In the middle of March DH and I are off on our first trip without DDs - for 6 nights :teeth: We're going because I got a great deal on Airmiles, and chose to go for 6 nights rather than 7 because of work / family commitments. We won't be visiting any of the parks, however. (I can't wait :) )

I suppose I'm trying to say that a week is certainly 'do-able' and definitely enjoyable as long as you know what you hope to achieve and accept that it can't be the same as a two-week trip.
