FLORIDA DISers! Please check in here!

Checking in from Ft. Myers. Aweful devastation here! We faired well and we're very lucky to say the least. I will never stay put during a storm of that magnitude again. The kids were scared and so were we. I will never forget the sound of our home shaking or the shrieking of the winds. I watched huge trees being uprooted!
We still don't have power and the streets are full of trees, power lines and dangling lights. School is canceled until at least Thursday. We took the family and came over to Miami.
I hope everyone else on the DIS that braved the storm is okay.

DD is a CM--also a DISer (DisneyDancer22). Her townhome (behind MK off of Reams Road) is still without power. She has no phone service and her cell won't work either. She finally found a friend today with a cell phone that did work--and called to let us know she's OK but has no idea when power/phone service will be restored. She said all the young trees in her development were pulled out by the roots. She did get to work though. She didn't call this evening so I assume still no power. Sure wish I knew what was happening. :-(

Checking in from Valrico...

The eye passed about 40 miles to our east, and we just had wind.

We feel incredibly blessed. We were bracing for the worst when they said it was coming in to Tampa, then we got scared again when it came in South and started heading north...

After seeing all the devastation, I know we were not as prepared as we should have been...

We went and ate lunch down in the Port area of Tampa yesterday. It was really surreal to sit there and look out at the water, realizing that that entire place could have been submerged the day before.

Prayers to our neighbors south and east of us...

Many gas stations in the area are out of gas. The neighbor went to McDonalds today and they are running out of food as well, nuggets were the first to go. No word on when anyone will be getting deliveries. Most people at work who live near downtown Orlando and north are still have no power. Most cell phones can not get a signal.

Schools in the area, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties, are closed Monday and Tuesday. Lake county is open though. My neighbors kids go to school in Polk county and they are closed all week. They will probably just add extra days at the end.

The Wilderness Lodge faired well. Of course lots of tress down and branches and pine needles everywhere. The roads leading to the MK were clear yesterday but lots of uprooted trees and directional signs just folded in half.

Animal Kingdom was closed yesterday but reopenned today.

by way of my mom's friend in Panama City

All they got was the leftovers of Bonnie, lots of rain and wind but nothing serious

Barry is out of town on one of his coaster trips. His area is close to the river but fortunatley the flooding wasn't too bad. I bet there are a few trees down. I hope his parents are okay.
