 I am thinking of borrowing my fathers travel trailer and taking my son to WDW at the end of May. Has anyone gotten Florida or AP discounts at this time? Thinking of staying two weeks, while having renovations done on the house (leave husband in charge of that mess :earboy2: ) Also I have never been in charge, so to speak, while staying in a trailer. Once the sewer bits are hooked up(husband or father would do this) is there any thing I would have to do to maintain the system or does it just flush? Thanks!

The black water system on an RV does NOT work the same way as your home sewer system. Be sure to leave the black water valve CLOSED. Also, after hook up, put a few gallons of water down the toilet into the holding tank along with whatever chemical you choose to use. When the tank is full, open the valve and let it drain, then close it up, and replenish the chemical and those all important first few gallons of water. If you leave the valve open, you will end up with a rather unpleasant, solid pyramid of waste in the middle of the tank. At the end of your stay, drain the black water tank first, then the grey water so the grey water can flush your sewer lines.

We just got back from at trip from May 23rd (for 10 nites) and I think we had a full hook up rate of $40-$45 per nite including tax. This was with the AP discount. IF you are probably going, you need to go ahead and make your ressie. You can over reserve if you are not sure of the exact dates yet then cut it back later. It's better to have a spot than to wait and not get one. Then, when the AAA rates for '06 come out, call and get that applied to your ressie. Then when AP rates come out (if you will have an AP) get that applied.

As far as your sewage operation, this is what we have found for our family of 5. We have to empty the black water a couple of times during our trip (we usually stay at least 7 days). This is easily done by pulling the handle under the camper, letting it drain, then closing it back up. We always leave our shower gray water tank open (our kitchen is separate) because it fills up after 2 showers. We close it the last nite there to catch the kids last bath water or my dh's last shower water and then use that to wash the sewer lines after dumping the black water the morning we are to leave.

There's not much to it really just make sure you have some gloves.
