Oh family dilemmas! I usually go to WDW with my mother and her side of the family or with friends but recently my dad has decided he'd like to take a more positive outlook on holidays.

We've been looking at an 8 day trip or so early July 2008. Except there is one problem - my dad refuses to fly anywhere. He's said it's possible to rent cabins on cargo ships to Florida or go on a 4 day cruise there but I can't for the life of me find anything that departs from the UK that doesn't involve some sort of flight.

Can anyone help or suggest anything? I'm really stuck for ideas right now. x

I think there is a Federal law that prohibits passengers from getting on a cruise ship at one point in the US and getting off at another point in the US, unless they visit another country first.

He could take the QE2 from England to NYC, then take the train from there to Florida, and do the same thing on the way back, but that's probably two full weeks of travel just to get there and back.

I just found the QE2 cruises thankyou, it's about 6 days travel each way for just under £700 each way which I guess is similar to the cost of flights. But unfortunately to train from NYC to Florida is like 2 days!

Not likely you're going to find a cargo ship flying a U.S. flag that is going to go from NYC to Florida on the days you need to travel and then back again, to meet up with QE2 or QM2's schedules. And it would have to be a U.S. flagged ship to transport passengers between two U.S. ports because foreign ships can't do it. And yes, Amtrak from NYC to Orlando is pretty close to a 2-day journey.

Norwegian Cruise Lines has a ship that sails from NYC which makes a port of call at Port Canaveral.....for 1 day. So you could spend one day in Central Florida. The other days are for travel between NYC and Florida as well as a couple of foreign ports since their ships are foreign-flagged.

Dear Dad either needs to learn to fly, or stay home.

Hmm thankyou for the suggestions, I cant seem to find anything logistically possible though!

And Bob it's not that he won't fly, but more he can't so not totally his fault although it does make for a complete nightmare.

There are two trains that go from NYC to Orlando.

Ah do they go daily? It could be a possibility seeing as they're saying it's only 23 hours...
