We live in the area and have for a long time.
I'm a little confused because I always thought the St Johns River was brackish and not fresh water...and I always thought amoeba were only in fresh.
I probably would have let my own DD swim there considering what I thought I knew. I grew up water skiing in the Banana and Indian rivers around here and now I wonder if the amoaeba can live there too.
Really sad and frightening.
There is a fund set up at Wells Fargo for the family as they had no health insurance, if anyone is interested.
