Yeah. End of December, central IL, and my husband wakes me up to tell me the basement is flooding!

bleepxxxbleepxxxbleep (thats me when he told me)

Then I go to make coffee while he is getting the sump pump started...I'm out!

WHAT?!?! I drink coffee like a fiend...I've bought enough food to hold us if it rains so much our house becomes a Ark...but forgot the coffee!

Jeez....

Wish it was snow...and I guess to make it a positive I can say this is a Christmas first...I never remember a flood on Christmas! I hate rain though!

Thanks for letting me cry....now back to my tea....

Ouch! I'm sorry for your not so good morning! On the up side, if it was snow instead of rain, you wouldn't be out picking up coffee today.

Oh my gosh...I hadn't thought about that. THAT would be really, really bad! I'm going to keep that in mind when I am getting soaked running from the van to the store!

I wish it would snow too, we're in OHIO and all we're getting is the blasted rain, although we're not flooding, sorry OP. What happened to all the snow in Colorado I thought it was moving East, thought we'd have a chance at a white christmas??? We never have snow anymore I swear, last year kids got all kinds of sleds for christmas and it didn't snow once here!!

Sorry about your flooding, but I can relate.

Monday, December 11 we woke up to about 2 inches of water in our basement. The hose to the washing machine had burst and water was running everywhere. Dryer ended up with a couple inches in it and a TV we had mounted on the was was being drenched by the water (it was shooting up in the air). Luckily all our storage is in rubber-maid containers and the appliances all dried out. Only thing we lost were some empty cardboard boxes and some throw rugs we had down.

On the positive side.....We did have coffee (we drink like fiends as well!).

Here's something to help you dry out..... :sunny:

:rotfl: My DH's best friend's dog popped his water bed yesterday! :rotfl:

Sorry, I know it sucks... but at least it's just the basement.
(Looking on the bright side. :sunny: )

So sorry to hear about your flood. I can sympathize. We got nailed in the floods in the Northeast last spring (and our basement is completely finished). We were up for days shopvacing and pumping to stay ahead of it. Hope things get back to normal for you soon.

Burst washing machine hoses rank way up there when it comes to water damage claims insurance companies are faced with. Some experts recommend replacing them every five years.

Often a TV suffers no damage when allowed to dry out thoroughly with the help of a fan aimed through the ventilation slits or with the back taken off.

Sorry you have had these problems.

We are also in Central IL, but luckily have not had water in the basement. It is sunny with a blue sky here this morning. Hope it comes your way.

Good luck on finding a cup of coffee.

I was thinking that today. We've had so much rain in the last 24 hours that our backyard is literally one big puddle. OH sump pump please don't fail me now. :rolleyes1

At least if it were snow we could get out of having Christmas with the inlaws :lmao:

I grew up in the SE Suburban area of Chicago. I remember one Christmas Eve when we spent all day trying to mop up the water as it came into the basement (I was in 6th grade, maybe). All 6 of us (my mom, dad, two brothers, sister and me) did it all day long, mop, squeeze into bucket, take it outside to dump away from the house. The sump pump just couldn't keep up with it. It was really raining outside, too. About 7PM my dad said to go upstairs and just take it easy. We were losing and it wasn't going to get any better.

We all went to bed that night, not that clean because of all the work we had done all day. Woke up Christmas morning and we had no power - no power also meant no water (for the pump). So we got dressed in our good clothes, even as yucky as we were, and went to Mass. We had about a foot of water in the basement. Luckily, my dad and older brother had gotten the freezer and washer up on blocks to keep them out of the water. Once we had power again, the sump started getting the water out of the basement and we just had to remove all the wet stuff down there.

A very memorable Christmas.

We live across the street from them...a blizzard wouldn't help us! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh...and rain has stopped...sump pump hasn't (whew!)...and its sunshine and 54 degrees outside...weird weather!!
