Flooded POTC boats

I assume you have not had the 'pleasure' of visiting WDW during one of those rare winter freezes when the temp.s drop below 32F. I have, twice. Even when it doesn't get so cold that they cover the plants up there are cold snaps when there's no hot Florida sun to warm you up - think walking around in very cold air with wet clothes, especially at night, there's nothing blessing like about it.
I think Disney has enough notice that they'll have to fix things. They are on notice that the ride is creating a slip and fall hazard To people getting in and out of a boat not designed to take on water as well as exiting up a ramp made slippery by people tracking water onto it from said wet boat.

Well I am from Canada, 32f is t-shirt weather for us LOL!

Most people are reporting that water washed over the front of the boat, which, if that is happening would explain the wet laps and such. But a "wave to the face"? Really?

Here is a picture of the boat with people in it:

Do you have any idea how large that wave would have to be to hit any one of those people full on in the face? Impossibly large.

Every time I think I finally understand the complaints about POTC and have found a way to rationally explain the waves of water people report, someone comes along and ups the stakes. By next week we'll have someone claiming they had to hold their breath underwater while the mermaids swam passed them.

I understand that it sounds ridiculous which is why I provided objective evidence (that you so conveniently left out of your quote of my post). I'm not exaggerating when I tell you my eye makeup was running down my face and there was significant water in my eyes, nose, and mouth which caused me to have a coughing fit. Whether or not you think that's impossible those are the facts. That is not caused by a "misting" or "slight splash" to the face; there was a large amount of water that hit me square in the face. If calling it a wave calls my objectivity into question then so be it.

Your experience has been echoed in one form or another by several hundred posts on this thread. It's an issue that needs to be addressed now by WDW staffers before something even more problematic happens to guests on one of the boats or the wet moving exit ramp.

For what it is worth on 11/3 we sat in the back row but our boat had no standing water and the front of our boat's passengers were splash mountain level, I think. Hard to see in the light but I tried to notice since I wasn't going to sit in front myself :)

One major complaint over the past year or so is POTC was a walk-on for decades, then along came FP+ and magically the lines for POTC started going out the door all the time. Lots of justified complaints about that.

So....make the ride unattractive, fewer people will want to go on it, and the line problem will go away! I can't think of any other reason to makes changes to a ride that make it a pain to ride instead of a pleasure, when the fix is so simple.

If that's true, then I expect they'll route a waterfall over the queue line and have it periodically drench guests in the SB line -- which is pretty close to what's already happening in the randomly foundering boats.

I think all of these complaints are legitimate.

I suggest that each and every one of us take two minutes to voice our complaints to guest services...it's the only way they will get the message that their guests are NOT enjoying Pirates anymore.

We rode POTC in third, fourth and last row this trip- including both a morning and afternoon ride. My daughter got a wet but in rode three on one trip but others were no big deal as far as wetness goes. Our friends rode in the afternoon in the front (both not small people)- and they came out with their shirts literally soaked from neck to lap- . My suggestion- stay out of front. Ps- ramp was wet for afternoon ride. Morning was bone dry.

We rode last night and our boat had several inches of water in the bottom as we entered the boat. We were in the back rows and didn't get wet on the ride. We though did not appreciate entering into standing water.

Silly question, but will a poncho help? Is there a way to keep my shoes dry? We're going in November and the thought of being soaked doesn't appeal to me.

Whenever I ride a ride on which I suspect I could get wet, I wrap my poncho around my feet. Since we are summer vacationers, I don't mind having wet clothes. Having wet sneakers, on the other hand, would make me a very unhappy camper. I try very hard to avoid blisters and rding PotC is not a good enough reason to get them! Anyway, the poncho thing works, and I trot along in dry sneakers while the sun dries the rest of me off. :thumbsup2

With all this said, I still don't like the idea of having to do this for PotC. :( And I have no idea what November weather is like.

Ummm....if this problem is not rectified we'll have to pass next summer. Bummer...we love this ride. But not enough to get wet feet. Blisters are just waiting to happen.

We had the same experience last week. They packed the boat. Thankfully we were seated in the third road but I never seen the bottom of the boat so wet before, there was about an inch of standing water. Thankfully the other 2 people that were supposed to seat with us decided to wait otherwise we would have to seat on the wet side of the bench from people stepping in and out. We ended up with wet shoes.

I think we'll just skip Pirates this trip, I have no desire to get soaked. It's my favorite ride at Disneyland, we've never gotten more than a little spray there and we often will wait for the front row. The only time I've ridden at MK was in 2012 and I was surprised at how much better the DL version was overall, we'll just wait for DL next year!

I'm so sad reading about this. POTC has always been my favorite ride. I was excited when they decided to refurb it, since I thought that might take care of a lot of the problems it has had over the years. Honestly, I may have to skip this one and that makes me so sad. We'll be there during MVMCP, and depending on how cold it gets that evening, I certainly don't want to be walking around in wet clothes after I ride. So incredibly sad to say that, especially since it wouldn't bother me much at all in the summer time.

I rode last Monday night, armed with water shoes and the knowledge to sit in the back. Upon entering, the floor was wet, but there was no standing water. During the ride I barely got wet, only a few specks of water touched me. Our boat was full but not overly packed.

Rode second row last night and my friend was on the right side when we went on the drop and his shirt was pretty much drenched. I hid behind him and the water went over his head enough to get the top of my head pretty wet. There was no standing water when we got in.

This is a terrible experience for visitors! At Disneyland (in California), the CMs do NOT pack the boats. Therfore, the water doesn't flood over the sides as your description indicates at WDW.

Just out of curiosity, does the Florida version usually only load one boat at a time? The DL version has a double loading dock which I'd think significantly increases the ride's capacity.

I've been anxiously watching this thread to see if the issues are getting resolved. It doesn't appear to be getting any better, so we just cancelled our FP's for November. The evening will be miserable if we have to walk around wet. Such a shame! We loved this ride.
