Flooded out in Georgia...

How sad I am to hear about this.

I just got a week off and wanted to drive up to the mountains. I plan to leave sometime Sat and not sure if rain and flood might be worse throughout the week. I could take a longer route (I-4, I-95, I-26, then I-40 to mountains.) with less chance of getting flooded hopefully.

That aside, my sympathies to everyone in the Atlanta metro area :(

Check it out! I took these pics in 2007, this is how Lake lanier Islands (where the water park is) looked back then.

Yup 2 years ago we were praying for rain.

My kids (we are in Paulding County) and Douglas County have been out of school all week and will be out again tomorrow. Both counties are still under a boil water advisory and many roads are still out. It's still unbelievable that we got so much rain and the flooding that occured.

Indeed! I was watching the news, lot of sad stories. Unbelievable! It happened so fast. :(

Having gone through major flooding myself, I can understand all the emotions you are going through right now. For those who have water in there homes, I would like to suggest that you line up a restoration company NOW to come to your home as soon as it is allowed. Remember there are a limited number of companies and equipment to handle what needs to be done. Good companies will come from other parts of the country to help, but that will take time. Good Luck!

Please don't take this the wrong way. How is downtown Atlanta. I am going to the Georgia Dome to see TSU VS FAMU. I have they said anything about the parade is cancel or anything. I also visiting Underground Atlanta to walking around before the football.

No water damage that we know of at my house, and we just repaired some earlier this year and got a new roof. BUT now we are swarming with ants. :scared1: I have fire ants EVERYWHERE! There are lines of them crisscrossing the driveway, my sun room has been engulfed and we can see millions of them all over the siding. We've been frantically spraying and putting out Amdro, as I don't want them in my house. I've seen a couple, but hopefully that's it. :faint:

Amazing pictures of the flood. Katrina comes to mind and it's hard to believe this is in my city.

Yep, we went from famine to feast in water!! I remember when we were praying for rain!:scared1:

My house has been ripped of it's carpet and flooring by the restoration people, samples of the carpet is being checked for parasites and bacteria. There are huge fans and humidifiers EVERYWHERE in the house. They said it will be a couple of weeks before we can move in.... :guilty:

I'm truly blessed because so many people have it so much worse. Keep your thoughts and prayers for those who have lost EVERYTHING... and have no insurance. :sad1:

Heather, we had fire ants in our backyard, too and that was the water that ran thru my house!! :scared1: I'm hoping they are not still there... :scared:

Ive been out of town all week at my mother's in Mobile. I drove in last night and only this morning had a chance to assess our situation. Ugh! We've got black mold the length of one wall, the wall itself is soft to a height of 5 feet. We had several inches of water come through the wall, across the floor, under another wall and out yet another wall. Books, Christmas stuff, cellphones, a heater, a video game console, a printer, all wet. Thank GOD I had cleaned out the basement 3 weeks ago when my DS moved out--we would have lost a LOT more if I hadn't cleaned things up and put them away. All told we have damage in two closets, and four walls. And that's just in the heated part of the basement.

In the storage part we have one corner that is wet to a height of 5 feet and the wall is crumbly next to the floor. Our sump pump broke sometime on Monday and poured water into the crawl space. Thankfully we do not have flooring in the basement--we were supposed to have that put down this week but the rain came in. So now we have a several week wait to get the basement thoroughly dry before we lay down our flooring

Hopefully, Travelers(insurance) will do the right thing. I was so depressed when I pulled the baseboard away from the wall and it just crumbled in my hands. Water just gushed out. Even the concrete floor has some mold on it. I know our situation is nothing compared to those who have lost everything, but it really is amazing how much damage a few inches of water has done.

If you do not have a flood insurance policy you are out of luck. Regular home owners policies do not cover floods.

Unfortunately for us, you are right. We got a call this morning from our insurance company. When DH described the sump pump breaking down and the water seeping under the walls, the agent stopped him*nicely* and said "if there is any kind of flowing water, from any source, your insurance does not cover." So I guess we'll file a claim with FEMA and see what happens. I need to get a lot of pictures to document then I'll start pulling drywall out of the basement. This is going to be an ordeal, i'm telling you. And our situation is a drop in the bucket compared to a lot of families.

Oh, and we got another 2" rain today. Just what we don't need.:headache:

Oh honey, I feel for you! We're in Columbus, south of you, we're getting most of the "crap" from the 'hooch, Along with very igh water levels since they opened up the gates to help y'all out, but thankfully our basement is dry, in part because we sit on a hill. Prayers sent your way.

Robin...I am so sorry this is happening to you, may you recover from this, and I will pray for you and Michael.....Faith from Miami.

just saw this thread...yowzaa.....hope everyone is going to make it through all this o.k.
Robin, maybe I could call Michael Johns to come on over and help you out? He can get Adam, maybe...it WOULD help, wouldn't it?What would Jason do? Sing Happy songs, for sure! So sorry you have to deal with this but happy you guys are alright for the most part. Life just keeps dishing it out, huh?
