Flooded out in Georgia...

I will be praying for you all!! Our home flooded 3 years ago (the only one in the neighborhood -- only a small creek nearby) and it is devastating to see your home underwater :( We are still in court over it. (long story)

I live in Chattanooga, TN and all hell broke loose. Have streets is flooded. I don't even know if even leave my home. I barely made it home safely today before the bridge start flooding. As right now I don't even know if get work. Gods know we don't need anymore rain.

My backyard looks like a swimming pool.

I suppose to go to Georgia Dome Saturday to TSU vs FAMU football game. I don't know if they cancel. I suppose going to the parade to. I am checking my email now to see still is going.

Stay safe, everyone. I know how fast this can happen & how scary it can be. Some family members of mine here in Iowa lost their homes last summer when it flooded really bad. It's awful that there's not much you can do but sit and wait for it to be over. At work, we put all our computers and chairs, etc. up on top of our desks to keep them dry in case the water made it to our office. We were 2 blocks away from the river that was flooding, but it wasn't supposed to flood bad enough to reach us. We found out that putting computers and file cabinets 3 feet off the ground doesn't help much when you get 8 feet of water in your building.

I live in East Cobb. Azalea drive is still under water from the Chattahoochee River. Schools were all cancelled today so traffic was light. Hopefully, we'll string together several days without rain.

DH convinced me to spend a bundle fixing the leak in our basement a few years ago. Boy, am I glad we did. Our backyard is a mess and our pool is filled with 20,000 gallons of mud/water but we're otherwise ok.

It is amazing how fast it happened. It went from much needed rain to floods in an instant. Very scary

I hope everyone continues to stay safe, my thoughts and prayers are w/ everyone. In early August this year 2 of my neighboring towns got hit w/ flash floods after days of heavy rain. We had an entire mobile home park washed away, and over 1/3 of the homes in the one village are now condemned due to structural damaged from the floods. I know in the midst of the rescuing here the Firehall got hit w/ a surge of 7 feet of water and the rescuers had to be rescued. Like the areas currently being affected, nothing like this has ever happened to those communities. These "unlikely" weather tragedies that have been happening are really scary.

I'm here, and we're OK. I live in Marietta near the Cobb/Cherokee County line.

They let us leave work early yesterday, which was a good thing for sure. On my way out of the parking lot, the water came up above my ankles. It was thundering so loudly it was scary, not to mention the lightning. On my way out of the parking lot, I had to drive through standing water that came up about three fourths of the way up my tires.

Fortunately as I drove to my house, the rain slacked off a bit, and I was able to see and avoid the big puddles of standing water. Some crazy person was tailgating me for part of the way for goodness sakes. Sometimes you've got to wonder what people are thinking.

We feel very fortunate that we have only minor water issues at our house. Water is seeping into our basement, but it's only about 1.5 feet in from the wall, so nothing was ruined. We did have to unpack some boxes in the unfinished side of our basement that had gotten water damage, but luckily we got to them in time. We also have a small leak in our laundry room ceiling. The water doesn't drip out, but instead runs down the sheet rock and is making it bubble up. Once the rain stops, we'll have to file a homeowners insurance claim to get that leak fixed and the sheet rock replaced in the laundry room.

Obviously it could be much, much, much worse. We have seen some crazy pictures of things totally submerged under water. Not to mention the horrible stories about people losing their lives. My prayers are with those families.

Robin, I'm glad you're OK and you and Michael were able to get out. Scary!

Thanks, Elisabeth... we're fine PHYSICALLY. I cannot tell you how it felt to go to my house yesterday to see it.... everything is destroyed. :sad1: We, thank God, are covered, so we are more inconvenienced than devastated. Their people in my neighborhood that are way worse off, keep us in your prayers.

Prayers to everyone effected. We got an email yesterday that they are expecting at least 20% of the staff in our Atlanta warehouse to call out today because of the flooding.

I heard some of the deaths are from people driving through the water :sad2:

I dont get why people do that unless they think that is the only way out.

Like some of the others said it happens so fast you are caught before you know it.
The same thing happened here back in the spring. My mom was taking my DD out to my sister's work out on the east side of our city, so she could go on to a funeral of one of her cousins. She had gone through a major intersection with shopping centers on each side. She got down the road about a mile and the road was flooded there. She turned around came back and the same intersection she had gone through not five minutes before was then flooded! She finally got out of the mess by driving through a neighborhood behind one of the shopping centers and they finally holed up at a nearby McDonalds until the worst of the rain quit. She never did make it to the funeral...
One little old man lost his life by being swept into a drainage ditch here. They finally found his body a few days later where the same ditch comes out about two miles over on the backside of the area behind where my parents live. Even though we've been through three hurricanes in the past 15 years here, that drainage ditch has been very full each time but never overflowed. It did that day. A friend of ours with the sheriff's department found the body way up beneath some trees, several yards away from the ditch!
And, like those people in Georgia nobody here had flood insurance either. :(

Oh Robin, I'm so sorry to hear that. I will absolutely keep you in my prayers. Our church had a meeting to strategize about sending out mission teams to repair stuff and help folks clean up. I'll PM you to get info on your area.

No school Thursday either. ds was sick last Thur and Fri so he has had a week long break. at this point I dont see the need to bother with school on Friday, I just dread making it up.

My thoughts are with everyone of you who are experiencing this disaster. Please stay safe.

They were talking on the news just a bit ago about some of our local Red Cross members heading down there.

I live in columbus georgia, and it looks like the rain is heading our way! :/ I'm a little scared, I'm on the bottom floor and my little... "area" behind us is prone to flooding even when just the sprinklers on.

I use to live in metro atlanta, though. It seems like my friends are having a hard there. I wish everyone up there good luck!

Hello neighbor! We're in North Columbus, I was downtown this evening and portions of our city's RiverWalk are under water. Drove by the river and it is definitely scary. GA Power has opened at least 5 gates on the dam so help ATL out.

Prayers to all who have been affected by these floods. I am in Phenix City, AL, just literally up the hill from the Chattahoochee very close to the dam and am very lucky that we are up so high. I cross the bridge into Columbus every day to and from work at 13th Street and yesterday the waters hadn't reached the River Walk, but they had by this morning. Seems a bit worrysome for those that live in the new condos downtown.

I agree. I wasn't aware that there were any that close on the GA side till I went 'round by the River Club with the girls this evening after music lessons at the River Center. I had ridden around a bit while waiting, then told them about the River Walk and they wanted to see. Noticed that the PC Ampitheatre was submerged. Ledger is reporting that Dillingham Street Bridge is closed and RiverWalk is closed indefinitely.

I live in Hall County, thank god no flood here, but i saw the horrible images on tv and the 911 call from the lady in Gwinnet county, she drowned in her mini van. :(
