Flooded out in Georgia...

Stay safe.

I hope you have Flood Insurance.

Flood cleanup is one job I would hate. :(

Stay safe, Robin! That is scary stuff. We've had tons of rain too but not as much as y'all.

Has Elisabeth checked into this thread? Hope she is safe also!!

I live in Marietta. I drove down to Mobile yesterday to be with my mother for a few days. DH called me this morning to say the basement is flooded. Then the school called and told me they were sending everybody home--DD16 says the lower floor restrooms were all flooded! And now they've closed schools for tomorrow. I am very anxious about all this. DH is not well and we rely on school to take care of Christian during the day time(he is very handicapped.) I hope DD16 will be able to help her dad some--she's a good girl, she's cooking supper for them all tonight.

In the meantime I sit here with my mom, both of us worrying. But DH says don't come home. I can't believe this is happening!

:sad1: I know you must be worried sick. my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We are in Forsyth County.
Thankfully our subdivision is faring fairly well.... we have some friends that have water in their basements, but thats about all.
However many roads in the county are flooded, and the schools are closed tomorrow.

I will be thinking about al my "metro Atlanta neighbors" in m ythoughts and prayers tonight.

Eventually the sun will shine on us again !!

I live in Paulding Co. and it is pretty bad for many folks. We were trapped in our neighborhood yesterday but are so blessed that our house had no damage. We leave for Disney in 5 days and cannot wait for our "happy place"!

I live in columbus georgia, and it looks like the rain is heading our way! :/ I'm a little scared, I'm on the bottom floor and my little... "area" behind us is prone to flooding even when just the sprinklers on.

I use to live in metro atlanta, though. It seems like my friends are having a hard there. I wish everyone up there good luck!

Check the news before traveling into the Metro-Atlanta area (22 counties). Some of the interstates are closed.

I'm here, and we're OK. I live in Marietta near the Cobb/Cherokee County line.

They let us leave work early yesterday, which was a good thing for sure. On my way out of the parking lot, the water came up above my ankles. It was thundering so loudly it was scary, not to mention the lightning. On my way out of the parking lot, I had to drive through standing water that came up about three fourths of the way up my tires.

Fortunately as I drove to my house, the rain slacked off a bit, and I was able to see and avoid the big puddles of standing water. Some crazy person was tailgating me for part of the way for goodness sakes. Sometimes you've got to wonder what people are thinking.

We feel very fortunate that we have only minor water issues at our house. Water is seeping into our basement, but it's only about 1.5 feet in from the wall, so nothing was ruined. We did have to unpack some boxes in the unfinished side of our basement that had gotten water damage, but luckily we got to them in time. We also have a small leak in our laundry room ceiling. The water doesn't drip out, but instead runs down the sheet rock and is making it bubble up. Once the rain stops, we'll have to file a homeowners insurance claim to get that leak fixed and the sheet rock replaced in the laundry room.

Obviously it could be much, much, much worse. We have seen some crazy pictures of things totally submerged under water. Not to mention the horrible stories about people losing their lives. My prayers are with those families.

Robin, I'm glad you're OK and you and Michael were able to get out. Scary!

I'm in Carroll Co, where I am at its not bad. But I know Douglas, Paulding, and Cobb are horrible. My not so smart husband decided to try and get to work he left at 7 this morning I called him at 9 and he had only made it to Hwy 5 they shut down I-20 at Fairburn he got off at Chapel Hill....well its 10:30 and he still hasn't made it. Not even close. Hes trying to get to South Cobb Dr.

 Thinking of all of you who are dealing with this.

We have lots of rain here and a couple of nearby counties have closed school yesterday & today.

We live in Paulding county, we have roads closed but thank God nonw of the houses in our neighborhood flooded. It took dh 2 hours to get to work yesterday and 3 hours to find a way home. This morning not so bad since he knew what roads to stay away from. He does security and so he has to drive all over Atlanta and since his office and all the people he works with is in a not so hit area they assume everyone can go to work. My sons girlfriends 2nd story apartment flooded though.

I feel horrible for all the people whose houses are flooded. We were lucky and while the water came pretty close to our basement, it quit raining before it got inside.

It took DH 3 and 1/2 hours to get home from work yesterday following all the detours. Normally he can do it in an hour.

I'm so happy to see the sun and blue skies today!

I watch the news everyday, or read it online, and today was the first I heard about this. Why was the coverage so poor?

Stay safe all. I hope all who are getting insurance have flood insurance.

You can find info on the Weather Channel's website. Also, if you want to check out local news coverage, go to www.11alive.com or www.wsbtv.com.

The thing that's crazy about this flooding is it's happening WAY outside of the flood plain. So many folks don't have flood insurance because it's never been needed before this.

The sun came out today here and thankfully we're just wet and mushy. We've been watching the Atlanta tv stations and some of the coverage is nuts. I've never seen a firetruck under water before. I'm hoping this rain will stay away from awhile, but I think we're forcasted more storms starting tomorrow. :(

Another Forsythian here, the stream in our neighborhood got high enough to flood one of the basements on the house closest to it, but most of the damage we're hearing about here is retaining walls are collapsing because the soil behind them is basically disintegrating and turning to mud and flowing away, causing the walls to collapse.

The downtown connector was underwater yesterday, it's where 75/85 meet up. 6 lanes, each way. all under water for a while. It took Dh 2 1/2 hours to get home yesterday.

Nobody has flood insurance because nobody's in the 100 year flood plain. In other words, nothing this bad has been seen in Atlanta for at least 100 years.

The Gov. declared a state of emergency in 17 counties yesterday, it may help with government funds for people who've lost homes/had water damage.

Ironically, the sun is shining here as I type. First time I've seen it in 8 days, it's a welcome sight...

West Cobb here. Our basement flooded with about 4" of water (no creek near us-- it just seeped up from below! :scared1: ) but we are drying out now.

Plenty people have it much worse-- the pictures on the news are scary. Good luck to everyone going through this!

Same here. We've got several inches of water in the basement and the water marks go 5 feet up the wall. :sad2: Eric lives in the basement and he lost his cell phone to the flooding. Thankfully, I had just cleaned that room out and put up all the electronics about 3 weeks ago, so nothing of real value got soaked, just some linens and clothes Eric had on the floor. They were able to shop=vac the water out, but it's dank and musty down there. Thank goodness the water stopped before it go to DHs oxygen machine!

And on another related note, Christian is having an allergic reaction to Omnicef. He started breaking out in hives 4 days ago. DH has been unable to reach his doctor and the urgent care flat out said "don't come here, we're swamped." He finally got through to someone and the doctor apologized--they have water in the office and it has shorted out the phones. they had to close the office. Unfortunately there's not a lot we can do about the hives other than give Christian oatmeal baths, slather him with calamine and benedryl cream. He reacts badly to benedryl pills--very irritable and high. It isn't pretty. DH is going to try some Zyrtec. Poor boy, he has deep scratchs on his chest, arms, and legs and he's working on his head and neck now. He can hardly even play for all teh scratching and itching. This is just the wrong time for Hives!!

I heard some of the deaths are from people driving through the water :sad2:

I dont get why people do that unless they think that is the only way out.

Some of them had little choice in a sense. The rain was coming down so fast that you could be on a dry road and then suddenly the creek just come over in a rush and you were in water being swept way. A few were probably just stupidity but some of it just was so sudden.

We are fine but about an hour north is flooded up to the roofs. Half of six flags is under water. We almost moved to mableton or austell but decided not to and it's kinda creepy seeing the flooding there on the news.

Dh's coworker got home fine last night but can't leave his house this morning. Please pray for everyone in GA.
