Flood at SSR - were you there?

Hi everyone! We recently returned from our first stay at Saratoga Springs Resort in a 1-bedroom (10/22-10/29). Unfortunately, on 10/27 our room was flooded... and we had to be moved to OKW. We still do not know what the problem was, and were wondering if anyone on the boards was there during this time.

We were in Congress Park (2nd floor)... my niece was sleeping in the living room and thought it was raining outside due to all of the water pouring off our balcony from the 3rd/4th floors. We had water coming in from the light fixtures, out of the walls, etc. It was a mess!

Thanks!

We were at SSR, but in the Springs section.

Sorry about your experience, that sounds terrible.

Hopefully, they were able to get it cleaned up without the room needing to be renovated.

Oh no! That sounds awful! Glad you were alright. You are the first to report about it so far. No SSR CM's told you what happend? Hope you still had a nice vacation.

We were rushing around so much during our last 2 days... I didn't have the opportunity to ask around. That's true... guess I could just call the front desk! DUH! :-)

We had been at MNSSHP the night before the flood, so we were still in our room asleep when we noticed the water. I understand the families above us were out in the parks (it was about 9am)... I was hoping to find out what happened from someone else who survived the experience! :thumbsup2

Wow, that's a pretty memorable thing! I was in 1601 the night of Oct 14th, so I was right down the hall from your room.

I imagine something broke above you. Or someone flooded the bathroom?

It had to have been a pipe break... it was an amazing amount of water!
Although we didn't really care for the open air / concrete floor 'hallways' at SSR (vs. carpeted hallways like BWV and WLV)... it was a blessing for Disney. There was so much water it was 'raining' down the stairwell near us.

They had enough carpet to clean with just the villas that were affected.

It was a broken water pipe from the 4th floor. I read this on a different board on a different site.

I believe there were a couple of cold evenings during that week. Maybe expansion and contraction from the hot and cold weather caused the water pipe to burst.

We were in Congress Park in the next building over 10/26 thru 10/30. There was a lot of action going on due to the flooding.....all kinds of pumping out of water, trucks from restoration companies, and saw furniture, bedding, lamps etc being taken out and replaced. One night as I walked over to the Artist's Palette I saw a maid in a golf cart and asked her what happened and she said a large pipe burst. I was so grateful it was not our building and felt bad for anyone affected, not a pleasant experience on vacation!!

We were there during that time in the Springs and didn't know a thing about it.

Did they credit you the difference in points between SSR and OKW, since SSR costs more points per night?

we were there, in the next block up, we saw all the activity with emergency vans etc, also maids carrying lamps and there was a headboard outside at one point. We wondered what had gone on, as the flood guys seemed to be there for ages ...

Actually we are still working with the DVC to correct problem. We 'confused' the situation by switching resorts on them. I understand their stance about it being an 'unusual situation'... but it was just as unusual for us! That's actually another reason I wanted to see if anyone else was on these boards. Just wondering how they were taken care of.

I knew it would mix them up when we moved, but the SSR wanted us to wait around until after check-in time for a room to open up/then be cleaned etc. I honestly uttered the words "are you kidding me?"

We had essentially been 'woken up' by the water... we were all still in our PJs and hadn't even had the opportunity to brush our teeth. I knew they could come and pick up our luggage and hold them for us... but I couldn't just go have a 'magical day' in the parks when I hadn't even showered! I'm sure we had some strange looks checking in to OKW (still basically in our PJs with 'bed hair'). :) My 16-yr old niece may never forgive me for making her go out in public like that! :teeth:

Well, they could have kicked someone out to put you in a room right away but then you'd still have a dirty room.

I can totally understand this ! I would have been the same way. I could not go to the parks without a shower and brushing my teeth ! I'm suprised the CM's at SSR wouldn't just automatically assume they'd have to do better than ask you to wait until AFTER check-in. How inconvenient and unfair that would have been. Glad u were able to get right in to OKW and hope the rest of your trip was a good one.

I too would have wanted a new room right away and anywhere!!! It was an unusual circumstance, yes and under those unusual circumstances I think a transfer to any resort villa is due if there were no rooms at SSR available immediately. Points should be returned to your account for the difference between OKW and SSR.

Folks, you do realize that this is paid from us (our dues), not Disney. Any compensation (be it adding points back into a members account, or xfer to a Disney hotel) comes from our accounts. This is because "we" own this resort, not Disney. Disney is only administrating it on our behalf. So be careful when you develop the "disney owes me" attitude.

Thank You :thumbsup2 under the circumstances DVC did what they had to, There are showers and changing rooms by the Spa. I use them whenever we have a late flight out and want to spend the day at the pool..

I feel it's basic customer service. Had it happened to my family (or yours), I am sure you would have appreciated the same treatment. This was a very unusual situation, and to be displaced from a room for an entire day in the condition they were (pajamas...no shower etc), would not have been acceptable imho. I think disney did the right thing. Using the showers at the spa is not the same thing as being in your own room and showering/changing/brushing teeth at your convenience. Consider this.....it was not checkout day for them. They were awakened very early in the morning and were greatly inconvenienced. It's different when it's checkout day because you expect not to have the convenience and plan for that accordingly. This was a fully paid day for the OP. They had every right to have & enjoy an actual room for the full day.

We were in the next building over and was wondering what was going on ! Thanks !

Gosh, I definitely would have wanted a room anywhere as a courtesy room to get dressed and bathed. My husband sleeps only in his undies, so the Saratoga staff would have probably insisted on giving him a room right away anywhere on Disney property (the quicker the better) - :rotfl:

Did any of your stuff get ruined? I couldn't help but think about people who have laptops and high cost cameras, etc. But, I work for an insurance company so I automatically start thinking about what kind of damage the water caused - ;)
