Flippin' for Disney

I know it's becoming increasingly more popular to "flip" things for a profit, so I'm curious what anyone might have had success with? There's some discussion of flipping video games on the gift card thread (bought on sale at Target or Best Buy, traded in at Game Stop) and I know there's people who buy overstock/returns and then resell them on eBay. So, what do you/have you done? Any suggestions for those of us just starting this type of thing?

I have a booth somewhere and I sell collectables. It does take a little time and investment to get started. But you also have to get out and make time to go and find the stuff. I have fun selling.

My DH will buy phones off of our local facebook page and sell them on ebay and also buy on ebay and sell on local facebook page when he finds deals on them.

He knows a lot about phone though because he handles all of the phones for the company he works for, so he know how much they are worth, etc and is always looking at them.

I always tell him I wish I could find something like that that I know a lot about to do the same thing with. The phones are also easy to ship, so you don't have the issues of finding boxes, etc to send things in if you sell on ebay.

I'm wishing the same thing - I briefly looked at the video games and got so confused between release dates and systems!!! If I had any interest in gaming maybe it would make more sense, but I'm quite certain I'd just end up with a big mess and my bottom line would reflect it!

I might have to check this out. I have a bunch of my kids clothes that I've brought to resale shops and they pick the top 2-3 things and I just bring baskets of it home for $10 back. But I live in a rural area, so garage sales are out, and even facebook and craigslist don't go real great. Maybe I need to try ebay a bit heavier and if I can sell what I have I can look at doing some churning with additional items I buy specifically for resale. Thanks!

I buy Silver Jeans in the off season, like at The Boston Store, when they hit the clearance rack or find them online at The Boston Store and pay about $20 for a pair. I can usually sell them for around $80-$90 on EBay.

I've dabbled in selling on eBay here and there. If you don't mind me asking, about how many hours per week do you spend listing, buying, e.t.c.? I would love to bring in some consistent, extra money for our household, but would like to get an idea of what the time investment might be. Thanks!

I'm very disciplined because we count on the money to pay certain bills, so I can't afford to slack off. I list 7 new items Sunday-Thursday evening and schedule them to launch the next day. That coupled with getting any packages ready probably takes me 1-1.5 hrs per day - If I don't dawdle on Facebook/DisBoards/etc while working, I can probably get it done in about 45 minutes. I usually do most of my shopping on Saturdays - during yard sale season I go out from 8-12 and if I find tons of stuff I stop there, if not, I hit some thrifts also. I also take in some consignments, so that frees up some time because I don't have to go out looking for things to sell.

I do work full time, and get home about 5 most days, so I usually work from 5:30-7:00 and then go cook dinner. It's a little easier for me than it might be for someone else because I don't have any kids, so I don't have my evenings tied up with practices/ball games/homework.

Definitely. EBay isn't what it was 10 years ago where you got big bucks for stuff because there are just so many more sellers now. I make good money doing it. I make enough to pay my car payment every month, 2 vacations per year (Disney and the Beach) and all of Christmas, along with any "splurges" I want during the year like a new Disney Dooney

Yup...I sold kids' clothes ( a combination of what my kids outgrew and what I found at thrift stores) maybe 7-8 years ago as well as other random things I had..,and made great money for awhile. Then it slowly trickled away. I only list a few things a year now that I know will do well, like sports jerseys or competition-style swimsuits. But I loved the research that went into looking up the clothing lines....all those pages dedicated to Gymboree, Hanna Andersson and Lily Pulitzer designs....wow!

Well, I started listing a few pieces of clothes my kids have outgrown that still happen to be in good shape (miracle!), so we'll see how it goes. I'm hoping to get 3-4 listed a day instead of doing it all at once - I'm guessing this would be a better strategy, but I don't know that for sure!

I know it's not exactly what you asked, but I've been selling a lot on the Facebook yard sale sites local to my area. The majority is things we no longer use or outgrew--so yay! for decluttering. I've also sold a few things people have left outside their house for free, like a cozy coupe that my daughter played with for four months first.

Anyway, I've made about $600-700 in the past year doing that. It's not enough to be a part time job, because I'm frankly running out of stuff, but it's nice and we don't hit the Atm anymore and even put some in the bank.
