Flip Flop fans! Check it out! And folks w/ bad feet too!

Hi gang. I grew up wearing flip flops all the time but due to age, my feet couldn't handle it anymore. They never had the arch or heel support I need. My feet were in pain baby!

Anyway, I came across some fancy schmancy ones that really fit the bill and are amazingly comfortable. Excellent arch support and they have an air cushion for the heal. I think they're as comfortable as sneakers!

And best of all, they have a nifty feature. They have a built in bottle opener on the bottom of each pair. Strange, yes. But they definitely came in handy recently.

Check 'em out, they're called Fanning by Reef.

Just thought I'd give an alternative to the crocs. Those things are u-g-l-y you aint got no allibi UGLY.

RickyinNYC...you are too funny! I haven't heard that cry in ages...we got in trouble singing that cheer at our school...and seeing how I own a couple pair of those butt ugly CROCS (but they are soooooo comfy) I am now gonna have to search for these.

I have to laugh at the *thought process* that led someone to put a bottle opener on a flip flop, but cool, comfy shoes are always awesome! And, I agree about the crocs- I'm waiting for the day I see Stacy and Clinton throwing them in the garbage on What Not to Wear.

I have to ask, since I see your posts all the time, are you one of the guys in your avatar? Which one? I like to put a face with posts!

Tonight at a pool party with our friends, I was looking for a bottle opener for my bottle of Corona, my friend said, hey I can open it with my shoes. I just laughed at him, and then he took my beer and opened it with these shoes! Man, I have got to get me a pair!

Lulu, strange thought process indeed. I think it was a professional surfer dude who designed them. I can only imagine the conversation. "Dude, can't open my Corona. Gimme the opener."

"Oh duuuuude, can't drink out of cans man. Wish we had an opener... hey, y'know what would be soooo rad? If we can have an opener on our person at all hours man.... then we'd be like always hooked up and can drink as much bottled beer 24/7 as our bods can carry... y'know? Like if we put 'em on a shoe like that dude on Get Smart, just not a phone or anything. Just the opener. And maybe a roach clip too. That would be so fine and chill man."

And oogieboogie, they do indeed work. I was at a picnic in Central Park with a big bunch of friends and no one brought a bottle opener to open the... y'know... the root beer. Yeah, that's right. And ta da, Rick to the rescue. Worked like a charm.

Jock, yeah, the idea at first grossed me out. Bottom of shoe plus item going in mouth... gross. But when the going gets tough, the tough get to open their .... rootbeer.

Thanks for the tip on the better arch support. I had made a special trip this summer just to get the Crocs (2 pairs )...[can't try them on if you order them ] , and as much as I do love them , I couln't wear them all day . I have orthotics in my sneakers , because I'm on my feet all day , not because I'm old. I just don't want to wear them on the wet rides and to Blizzard Beach. The Reef sandals look pretty cool. Since there's metal on the sole, do they click when you walk or is there a chance it could make you slip if it was rocky ? One more thing... I see you're from NYC. We will be tacking on 3 days in NY at the end of our Disney trip . Do you have any suggestions on what not to miss that I wouldn't get in a travel brochure ? It'll be me, DH, DD8 and DS7. I contemplated booking with the Big Apple greeter company. Have you heard of them and if so , are they reliable ? Thank you, Elisa (CANADA)

Hi Elisa. In terms of the flip flops, the little metal on the bottom doesn't come into contact with the ground, it's recessed into the soul. So no clicking or slipping. FYI, I just bought a pair for Joe (other half) and he's been wandering around the apartment and neighborhood with them constantly. He agrees that they're incredibly comfortable, the souls feel like sneakers. You might like to know othat I used to wear orthotics in my sneakers/shoes as well, due to my arches. Haven't had to wear them in a while but the flip flops don't irritate my arches one bit.

As for NYC, when will you be visiting? It really depends on the time of year you'll be around as to what I'd recommend. Big Apple Greeters are a pretty neat service. I haven't used them but friends have. But if you just want an itinerary, or list of where to go, or more important, how to get there, let me know. I've given many, many DIS'ers some tips so I'd be glad to help you out!

It's Elisa here. Thanks for the reply. We'll be arriving in NYC at Laguardia on Dec 21st for 3 days. We planned on the usual tourist stuff , ie ESB, Statue of Liberty, WTC, Central Park, FAO Shwartz(For kids). We're doing the double decker bus tour(Hop on /off). I guess my question to you is ,what do you think the best mode of transportation is into the city , and is there anything you would recommend doing or seeing that isn't well known. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We'll be staying a few blocks from Times square. Thanks for all your help . Elisa

This is great! First day on the DIS boards and something I can talk about! I went with my Sister in law yesterday to look for a pair of crocks and I couldn't find ANYTHING/COLOR I would wear! I am leaving for DW in 22 days and am 6 1/2 months pregnant. I will have to check out these flip flops! Hope they are as great as you say and Thanks again for saving me from the crocks! You are AWESOME!!!!!!!
