I am thinking about getting a Flip video camera for Xmas. Can anyone tell me the main differences between the Mino and the Ultra and also, should I get the HD version? I really just plan to take short videos of the kids and download them to my computer. I want to get one that takes up to 120 minutes, but other than that, I'm not so sure what to get!

Also, any accessories that are a "must"?

Thanks!

I just bought one....Best Buy had it on sale for 100$ instead of the normal $150. I was going to wait until after christmas and use the money I get from it but I figured I wasn't going to find it any cheaper. I got the Mino and I LOVE it. I opted for that over the Ultra because it has a built-in rechargeable battery instead of the AA batteries that the Ultra uses. I thought it would go through WAY too many batteries. If you go to the flip website you can do side-by-side comparisons of all the cameras just to see what they all have. The Mino is just a 60 minute camera because I figured what's the point of having 120 minutes if you don't have the battery to last that long. It's super easy to upload videos though, it took me about 5 minutes to do.

I just got the ultra on sale for $50- works great, one of the best purchases I've ever made!

I'm impressed by the picture, the sound is pretty good, too! Most of all I like the ease of use...regular AA batteries, and just plug into the computer to view/ download videos. Sooooo easy! Love it!!!

Not sure about the mini, but the ultra easily fits in my purse, and it's great. I'd look for sales!

I have the Ultra. The sound and video quality is actually pretty good.

Here's a piece I shot with the Flip Cam for my journalism class.

I think it came out pretty nicely considering I used a Flip Cam and iMovie. (I'm a print journalism major but when I took TV production in high school we used Sony camcorders and Final Cut Pro haha)

Thank you all for the quick replies!

Allison, that video looks great! I'm impressed! Do you happen to have the HD version? I'm wondering if its worth it or not just for short home movies...

Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Thank you! And I have the regular one - no need for the HD. I bought it at the beginning of the semester to use in this specific class (online journalism) but I've also used it for my internship (at a website) and for fun, too - so I think it's a worthwhile purchase.

I just got the Ultra from Amazon...the 120 minute was 89.99. I wanted the pink one, but that was more money(don't know why?) so I got it in the white. I LOVE IT! it is so portable and I keep it in my bag. I just wish you could snap pictures with it too - that would be perfect, but you can't have everything I guess. Go for it - you'll love it. The quality is good and easy to use/download.
