Can anyone give me a ballpark price on flights to either city. I am in the planning stages for next years Alaska cruise. :surfweb:

It can vary greatly from where you are flying from. Use a sight like kayak.com to look at all airlines to both locations. We flew into Seattle last year from Detroit for $354 RT.

I am flying from Ohio/Cleveland and just need an estimate for planning. Thanks

We also live in the Cleveland area and found it was cheaper to go to Detroit. Might want to look at Pittsburgh as an option also.

We flew from Nashville. $1500 for the 3 of us to Vancouver roundtrip. Seattle would've saved us baggage fees flying southwest but the price difference in flights wasn't too much and by the time you factored in transportation to/from Vancouver it ended up being a wash.

From Flint, MI we payed $278 on Southwest Airlines to Seattle and $497 home from Vancouver. Booked directly with the airlines for both.

We booked the day the prices came out. We paid $333/person from Austin to Vancouver on WestJet.

The next question is how much to get from Seattle to Vancouver's airport. This is a hidden cost if you don't plan to spend time exploring Seattle.
  • $50 quick shuttle is the simplest with 6 to 7 daily trips to fit your schedule
  • some like to take the train. However look closely at the schedule. The train may force you to get a hotel which adds to the cost significantly.
  • there other buses at various rates from downtown Seattle to downtown Vancouver
  • Quick shuttle is the only option that does not add transfer costs from Seattle airport to Seattle downtown
  • Travel from Seattle to Vancouver add's 3 to 6 hours depending on your transportation mode
  • another scenic option is to whale watch your way from Vancouver to Victoria and then continue by ferry into Seattle
Also consider what it would cost to fly into Vancouver, but depart from Seattle as a variation

Flying from Atlanta
on Delta to Vancouver - $900 per person
on Alaska Air to Vancouver - $1500 per person
on Southwest to Seattle - $400 per person, plus the cost to get to Vancouver (guessing $150 for train, another flight, or rental car)

Use Kayak.com That's the best way to get an estimate, and it doesn't require everybody else to use Kayak.com to get the answer.
Wow! Bad mood? My trip is next year and I have been on kayak and hipmunk but they are not pricing that far in advance. Why click on my post if you've got nothing worth saying? Insert negative comment here. I was looking for exactly the above. Someone who has gone before me to give me a ballpark.

Nope. Not a bad mood. Just didn't think the question needed to be asked since you have all the tools in the world in front of you to get a general idea, then add a random amount to that so that you overbudget and are pleasantly surprised to have extra money after buying tickets.

Here's a tip: When using Kayak, if they don't go out that far, change the date to this year. That will give you about as good an estimate as asking random people who also can't book that far ahead.

Even better, use Kayak and use a date for the busiest time of the year. Budget for that. You'll have plenty of money left over.

I also like to see what the prices have been historically. And reminds me again why I'm flying into Seattle tomorrow and not Vancouver. Lol

Just a note. We did the Alaska cruise last year and we all said that a highlight of our trip was the train from Seattle to Vancouver. We met a bunch of other families heading up for the cruise. Also, the ride was very scenic. Highly recommended!!!

We have family in Seattle and used Frontier out of Cleveland last year since it was the ONLY direct flight to Seattle we could find (16 yo was flying alone and I wanted a direct flight for her). We checked 5 or so airports, (Indy, Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, etc- we are equidistant from Columbus and Cincinnati, so Detroit is not usually on our radar). This year, we are traveling with other OH relatives to Seattle, same thing -Frontier is only Direct flight I could find (at least anywhere in our price range). Frontier is a budget line, but with adding "the works" which includes seat selection, carryon and checked bag pp, we paid approx 400 pp incl tax RT. Have fun planning!
