Flights...Ottawa Area

Go every year in March Break and live in Ottawa. I think people should always quote flights with tax! No deals to be had direct from Ottawa during March Break. If you can handle 600-700 each and don't mind weekends or Wednesdays, you might get one for that price IF you act early. Best bet would be to get a AC or WJ package with flight I'm guessing. We usually fly out of Syracuse. Easy drive and you save at least $200 per person (we are 4 ). We also flew out of Montreal but I prefer Syracuse if you are going to make the 2 hr drive anyways to save on customs at the airport. Love flying domestic in the US - so easy. We did a stopover once and never again! WeAther is too iffy........we landed in Chicago and weren't sure if they could take off again due to weather. The few extra bucks are worth it for direct.

My beef with Westjet at the moment is the flights I booked in March for December 2014. The actual flight price didn't change but the taxes and fees went down. Had I waited I could have saved myself a bunch of money. When do the taxes ever go down in this country.

When I booked I was happy with the price. I didn't want to travel to Syracuse in December and for just two of us, there wasn't any great saving to doing so. I was happy that we got the direct flights from Ottawa. I only wish they had them all year.

I feel so much better for having vented that.

With Delta from Syracuse with 1 stop is $200US inc taxes per person vs $772 for those dates.

I can fly out of YOW with United for less than half of the price of WestJet. Would definitely prefer to fly WestJet but not that much!

We don't want to fly out of Syracuse or Rochester this time around. Since it is just the two of us the savings are not significant enough to justify the cost of gas and parking as well as the time spent driving.

Just saw that news that Allegiant Airlines has signed a deal with the Ogdensburg Airport to offer flights to "Sunshine Destinations". The airport needs some upgrades but they expect that they should be done by 2016. Only a 45 minute drive for me from the south end of Ottawa. And parking is free in Ogdensburg.

Just saw that news that Allegiant Airlines has signed a deal with the Ogdensburg Airport to offer flights to "Sunshine Destinations". The airport needs some upgrades but they expect that they should be done by 2016. Only a 45 minute drive for me from the south end of Ottawa. And parking is free in Ogdensburg.

Yeah I saw that too, and we are hoping that Orlando will be one of the destinations. It's kind of like Plattsburgh NY that now touts itself as "Montreal's Other Airport"

That would be a drive worth making for cheap direct flights, and I'll bet they go to Sanford Executive Airport if they do go to Orlando!

If you take that option you can go ahead and pick up tires, groceries, electronics, books, clothes, and gasoline on your way home from Ogdensburg and make your vacation an all-round win, win, win!

When I fly to Florida, I'm usually by myself, so I fly out of Ottawa, simply because parking the car somewhere and gas would defeat the purpose of saving money by flying out of another airport.
