Flights for next Summer

I tried to book my flights today for next summer. I wanted 4 seats on a non stop flight from Manchester to Orlando 18 July-8th August. Was told only Virgin go non stop from Manchester, I could get on the outbound flight but I couldn't get a return flight as they were already fully booked. I have had to settle for a Delta flight going via Atlanta instead. I didn't think I would have a problem booking so far in advance. On the plus side the Virgin flight would have cost us £740 each if we could have got one but the Delta flight was only £644 each.

I know it is ridiculous how early the flights are getting booked up, sometimes its all with packages and those of us who just want a flight are left out in the cold. I booked 2 weeks ago for flights on 6.8.04 and returning on 28.8.04 and was told the plane had only one or two seats left, this was way before we could book flights only so to gaurantee we got the flights with Virgin that we wanted we booked a flydrive with a free car for a week, declined all insurances and extension on car and booked it, if I wanted flights only because of my return date I would not have been able to book until the begining of Oct. We are planning on getting AP so will go again in 2005 I think that I will go this route with Virgin again! and booking on line saved me almost £300.

To ensure we could get the flights we wanted for this August we booked a 'flydrive' but didn't use the car option. You can book these a while before the flight only dates become available. It still worked out cheaper than flight only!
