On my next solo trip, it actually looks like the best fare would be going out of one airport and coming back to a different airport. And since DH is dropping me off/picking me up, no problem. This means two one-way tickets instead of one round trip ticket, which is what I'm questioning because I've always flown round trip. For those of you who've booked airfare as two one way tickets instead of one round trip ticket, is there any downside? I can't think of any, but like I said, I've never done it before. So 2 one ways vs. round trip-OK?

No downside if the price is better. On SW, I typically book one way for both legs even if they're for the same airports. It's just easier to change things if you're only having to deal with one part of the trip.

Sometimes, like with Delta, the cost of two one way fares usually exceeds a round trip, so it's cost prohibitive. There are other airlines where that isn't the case.

We rarely book round-trip. There really isn't a downside, and you have an easy way to deal with transportation. If the price is right, go for it.:thumbsup2

You can always go here and use it to help booking a "round trip" with different airports.

I just booked 2 one ways with delta.

I looked again this week for RT and the price was much more.

But I also bought the tickets 331 days in advance so $259 RT leaving the Friday before Easter...I am happy!

I do have a potential (but I'm sure RARE) downside, and I'm in the middle of it right now.

I have two one ways booked for our trip next month. Delta called me offering a free change for the flight TO Florida. Since our flight from Florida is separate, I'm not sure they'll let me change to a closer airport.

Like I said, I'm sure it's rare, but it is a potential downside. That being said, that wouldn't keep me from booking two one-ways.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons and I frequently do 2 one-ways. But once I did get caught with needing to move the first one-way and because it wasn't linked to the second one-way as a round trip could not both be changed with one change fee. If you have a flight disruption on the first flight, the airline will be powerless to do anything to help with the return flight.

I believe on Jet Blue you actually purchase two one-ways when you buy a round trip, regardless of airport(s) you are flying to/from. They just link them together.

I just had to cancel a trip on JB and booked the tickets (using the multi city option) from BOS to Anchorage and back from Seattle to BOS. If I had incurred a change/cancel fee it would have been for $150pp, not $150 for each segment. However due to it being a health condition they waived the change fee, which was very nice.

Thanks everyone! You gave me the conficence in my decision to book 2 one-ways. So thanks to y'all, I do get the best fare after all!
