We are flying across country for our trip to Disneyworld later this year. We have a very early flight so breakfast will have to happen on the plane. Any tips or ideas of snacks or anything that I shouldn't take on flight?

I know I can't pack an ice pack so it needs to be something that won't go bad. I was thinking of making some baked oatmeal muffins for the first flight and bringing snacks but our second flight I will need more lunch type stuff. We only have about an hour in between flights and with potty breaks and going from one terminal to the next I don't want to plan on getting something there and then running out of time.

Thank you!

Adults or kids? If only adults, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. If kids, then for the second flight, I'd pack things like goldfish crackers/pretzles/, granola bars, maybe whole apples if old enough to eat like that etc.

I'm interested in this topic because I just found out that there will not be a complimentary meal on our 10 hour flight to Hawaii in June. There is food to purchase but I doubt we will like the food and we are boarding the plane early in the morning and won't arrive until evening (evening according to our time anyway). I am considering bringing turkey pepperoni since it's shelf stable until it's opened, olives in individual packs, crackers, hummus in small containers (Aldi has a kit with hummus in a small can that is pretty good), clementines, and mocha almonds. I will probably also stash a few Kit Kat bars as a special treat.

A mixture of kids and adults.

If you're flying a plane that serves peanuts anyway, my suggestion is always to pack PBJ (PB on both sides of bread and jelly in the middle so it doesn't sog out - in our house, it's actually all natural PB and strawberry fruit preserves as the favorite prep:)) and then all the favorite foods of my kids (with 1 healthy snack and 1-2 unhealthy ones). So, I'll have PBJ, clementines, smartfood popcorn bags, and m&ms for the kids for the plane and I'll have 1 juice box or water for each kid for right before security (so everyone can make it til we get on the plane)...they are happy as clams for the flight - I usually pick up just the adults 1 sandwich which we split (since they tend to be $10-$11) to go along with any snacks and everyone is good.

That is a really good tip about the PB&Js! I don't know if it would work will all the allergy concerns on a plane, but for everyday life I will be using this tip.

Our last couple of flights to Disney have been early morning departures and I knew we wouldn't have time to eat at home while trying to get the last minute stuff packed, so I cooked a pound of bacon the day before and just kept it in the fridge until we were ready to leave the next morning. I don't worry about keeping it cool since it's a smoked meat. Our last trip we actually had some bacon left over since I made extra so we put it in the fridge at BWV and DH ate it the next day with no ill effect. Our tiny local airport basically only offers muffins or croissant breakfast sandwiches, neither of which appeal to us (and DH can't have gluten so neither option works for him). I should mention that our trips are typically 7 hours or less, door to door.

I also pack pretzels (the 4 mini pretzels on the plane are usually like rocks!), apples, muffins, sturdy crackers like Cheez It Grooves, GF crackers, chocolate, and raisins/dried apricots to snack on. After being stuck on the tarmac once and running out of snacks quickly, I always pack plenty of food for the trip plus extra, just in case.

We just flew from New England to the West Coast, and it was the same thing...early flight, quick layover and an afternoon arrival. We ate bagels/coffee/juice in the airport before our morning flight, and I brought grapes, apples, cheese, crackers and pepperoni in my carryon bag for "lunch" On The plane.

No, it's any non-solid item. Applesauce, pudding, yogurt, jelly, beverages, etc. are all subject to the 3-1-1 restrictions.

I guess this is one of the things that depends on the TSA agent because I've brought yogurts bigger than that several times. Heck, in my local airport, they don't even ask you to remove the 3-1-1 bag from your carryon.

It looks like you have awesome suggestions from everyone! When I travelled with younger children, they were thrilled to find their snacks packed in plastic containers with little dividers everywhere. Think of those containers that you keep beads in for jewellery making. (I'm sorry....I can't post a photo of mine). I filled each square with goldfish, nuts, raisins and dried fruit, mini pretzels, mini muffin, cheese cubes, salami cubes, berries, etc.

Also, my kids always carried their own little backpack which I filled with new activities to keep them busy on the plane. Colouring book, brain teasers, decks of cards, etc. Between the food and the fun, my kids were always happy flyers!

I always go to Walmart the night before I fly and buy the fresh cut up fruit in the clear plastic containers. I live in Dallas so no flight w/in US is very long so I have never had an issue with it spooling or getting nasty.
Another hint I have not seen here yet is to bring empty water bottles for everyone. No matter where my seat is, it will always be the farthest you can possibly get from the drink cart.
Before boarding I go to the airport Starbuck's to get a drink and ask them to fill up my bottle w/ ice so it melts at the rate I need to drink. Also, obviously can use water fountains to fill.

i always bring food since im GF and thats hard to come by on planes. i bring jelly and sunbutter, snack/protein bars, string cheese(you can freeze if you have a few hours), sandwiches like turkey if i can eat it quickly, bananas, apples, pears, carrot sticks, celery sticks, etc. i have brought cold pizza and ate it when it warmed up to room temp. my mother had a pudding taken once, they said any liquid or gel could be taken. i like gopicnic boxes too but just to warn the portions can be small.

i don't take peanut butter or anything with peanuts in it due to allergies. as someone with an allergy i understand how dangerous it is for those with peanut allergies and after hearing how terrifying it is for those parents to fly with their children i never want my sandwich to put anyone in harms way. even if someone doesn't die it would cause a flight to be redirected if there is a medical emergency so it will come back to affect you too. loads of people with allergies go to Disney because its a safe place for them so there is also a higher chance someone with a severe nut allergy will be on the plane.

I appreciate your awareness and kindness to the allergies. My son has many allergies and that is another reason why I need to bring snacks for our flight since i cannot guarantee a safe place in the terminal we will be in and we have a short amount of time so no time to wander or hassle the places for the ingredients list. As one of those parents you spoke of, thank you :) :)
