flight seating arrangement

We are thinking about flying in Aug. but I'm nervous about the seating arrangements. We are a family of 4, me, DH and 2 DD's 16 and 6. We've flown twice before from Philly to Orlando and most of the time I was separated from the family, which I didn't mind. ;) My concern is what if atleast 3 of the seats or 2 and 2 aren't together. I'd really like to have both girls sitting with atleast one of us. DD6 is to young to sit alone and DD 16 is really nervous about flying and I think she'd pass out if she didn't sit with one of us. That's probably the only time she'd want to sit with one of her parents. Is there anyway to be sure or guarantee seats together?

Not foolproof but if you are flying on an airline on which seats can be reserved, check back at least twice every week in case seat assignments got lost (they do especially if a flight schedule change no matter how slight happened) or check back at least twice every week if you are before or after the window to make seat choices at all (seats can open up after the end of the window too).

I am very anal about checking once I have seats assigned. I check daily or multiple times daily to make sure my seat assignments are intact. IF they change due to a flight change or equipment change, I get them back right away.

I have never been separated from my family, so be diligent and all will be fine. If you end up on an airline that does not offer advance seat assignment, make sure to use their online check in if available or get to the airport very early.

Which airline are you flying? Southwest does not have advance seat assignments, AirTran assigns at check-in which is 24 hours before.

I'm surprised you've been separated from you've been separated from your family. We fly all the time, and have never been separated. What airline are you flying?

Once we flew Delta and once US Air. We aren't sure who'd we'd be flying with this time. I guess it depends on the price. So far we have been leaning towards Southwest.

I am not sure what airline you are flying on, but they should accomodate your request. I see that you are from South Jersey. Have you looked into flying out of AC INtl? Spirit Air flys from there, and a friend of mine has flown from AC to Orlando many times and raves about the service. Here is a link to Spirit enjoy your trip.

All airlines (except Southwest) will accommodate such requests, as long as open seats are available. Similarly, all airlines will split families up if there is no other choice.
