Flight seasons changed?

last year for our nov flights, i started researching prices around nov 2010 -- they were about 1900 return economy then, then in april dropped to around 1600, then in aug dropped to 1400 then by september dropped to 1300 so i snapped them up then, which i figured was a good price for a return direct flight bne-lax in economy.

now i'm looking for our nov/dec flights and i'm seeing them around the 1900 mark again... hoping they come back down soon so that i can book them at a reasonable rate. i'm noticing PE is advertised for my flights at around $2700 right now... an extra $800 is looking pretty attractive, especially the price drops later in the year....

Is it just me or have flight seasons changed?
October fares to the US used to be very cheap and now it's...not! :confused3

Am I just looking too early?

We're in the same boat. Were are looking for late OCt returning November. The fares are really high at the moment, and I can't figure out why. Its after school holidays, but the fares are more expensive than Sept.

We were quoted $1390 Mel-Lax at the travel expo for October - but we couldn't book it as we are using a Qantas travel voucher (which couldn't be used with the Expo special fares). The same flights on the Qantas website are showing for $2250!!

We're going to have to wait it out. Hope they come down.

I think maybe they've figured out that everybody now travels in October LOL but then how can they be $900 odd cheaper at the expo? Rude!
If I come across anything i'll let you know mickeyd, we're looking at flying out on 16th Oct and returning 8 Nov.

Thanks becpee! Will do the same. We fly out 11 Oct and return 7 Nov. Are you heading to DL or WDW?

Totally agree. I was checking for Sept departures, even though no trip planned, house destroyed in the Xmas storms, but just for interest sake, and the prices were $1500 return but then went to over $2000 as soon as Air Australia went bust. Coincidence ? :confused3

Alot of the end of year deals seem to finish up last week, but more will come out. No way they can offer $2000 air fares for the rest of the year.

Heading to LA, cruising down the coast to Mexico then onto DL (with a Vegas sidetrip LOL )

I know i'm wishing the year away but I just want it to get here!

Nice - we did a cruise down the coast of Mexico in '09 (with Royal Caribbean), and it was great. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I have been keeping an eye on flights for our November trip and they are ridiculous! I really hope they will get cheaper later in the year but I am nervous about leaving it too late. Hopefully in April/May they are a better price and I can buy ours then.

We are going to WDW then flying to Washington catching the train to NY then flying home from there. At the moment on BestFlights it is showing $2300 pp for my configuration including extra stops and long lay overs! :confused3

As soon as someone on here sees a good deal we will all be jumping on board:woohoo:

I wouldn't worry about leaving it late :goodvibes Sometimes the best deals are to be had at the last minute as they are trying to fill the plane. It's just a matter of finding a fare that you are happy with and jumping on it. We have had return flights to LAX with V before $424 going over $448 coming back, return, under $1000 return, that was 4 days out, in December!

So sometimes waiting can be good, sometimes not so good. It's all a gamble :thumbsup2

if United Airlines is an option for you, try unitedairlines.com.au and use their multi-city booking. If you stick to the one airline it makes it sooooooo much easier if something does go wrong if you miss a connection etc and no concerns about being charged for luggage for US domestic flights.

looks like i'm waiting...I just want to book though so I can say "we're really going"
Me Too! Then it will all be official:)

UA is definitely an option for us, I am a cheapest wins girl (flying is neither here no there for me so I would rather keep the $$ for shopping!) I am going to check out their page now:surfweb: I do like the idea of sticking with one carrier. Thanks!

Hi Guys, I too have been watching the fares to MCO in Sept and it just keeps going up! A few weeks ago it was about $2k, then last week $2100 then this week $2200 flying with Delta. When we last went in 2010, I watched them fall from about March until July when they bottomed out at $1500 which is when we bought. I am hoping this happens again, so if it holds true, we should see them start to drop in the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed!!

If you want fares now, you maybe in luck if you go to Flight Centre today as they could still give me Expo fare prices but I already had a booking with them that I was trying to change.

Of course she had told me!!!

Long story short- we are still flying DL.

Tried changing it to leaving one day later as we originally wanted. Flights were available for $210 extra per person on VA planes, which we decided we could live with, but the connecting internal flight, LAX/MCO return that we booked separate to the MEL/MCO return flight would cost $300 per person to change,(it would also have to be a day later) . We paid $482 for them.

So we are staying as is. :sad1:

Flight over leaves MEL at 7am  via SYD. We are at least 2 hours drive from the airport so it is going to be a very early morning unless we spend $ and stay overnight down at the airport.

Agent assured me that DL are very good!

Stay tuned for my TR!
