Flight prices so LOW!

Did you try? I got my tickets cancelled and a travel voucher given. Granted, they weren't super expensive tickets to start, but still. It was a courtesy because flights booked before about a week ago still have cancellation/change fees attached, but the agent has the discretion to waive them.

There are currently a couple of options for me around in the $65 range, depending on when I want to go. Since I can cancel without fee by the end of March, I hope I'll have a better handle on what the course the virus is taking. I'm a nurse, so while I'm concerned about illness, I'm more worried I'll come into passing contact with a sick person and end up unable to go because I'm quarantined, even if I remain perfectly healthy.

What fare did you book on JB? The Blue Basic, Blue, or Blue Extra? Curious if they are holding the line on people who booked Blue Basic fares but lenient to those who booked the other fares?

Wow, thanks to this thread, I just remembered that I paid $12 for a "price tracker" option on Travelocity and now I'm due for a $120 refund, as my flight price has dropped.

Obviously, I wish the circumstances were different........

Don't tell them you are going rebook. Just say you want a credit voucher.
I asked for a credit voucher and explained we would need tickets for a trip in the future and was told that I would still be charged the cancellation fee to do that. We always buy the basic tickets because we use our Jet Blue mastercard which gives us free luggage.

Blue Basic. And I don't know why the agent gave me the credit; possibly it was because my flights were low when I booked them. Two tickets at $89 each. Even if I rebook at $65ish, that's only about an extra $50 credit total. I fly JB about once a year, and only if the times work and the fares are lower than Southwest or Delta. So I'll either let that $50 lapse and my new tickets will essentially be the same price as the old ones, or I'll have an enticement to book on JB and give them more of my money rather than booking on SW. My motivation is to be able to cancel without penalty if I need to reschedule, not to get a lower price on my original flight.

I just got off the phone with Jet Blue and I was told we could not cancel our May fares and rebook with out paying the cancellation fee because we have the basic tickets. The prices listed online today is $411 cheaper than what we paid. It is really aggravating! We have never seen the prices so low!

Get the JetBlue app and ask through the chat feature. Say “I would like to cancel my flight due to coronavirus.” They will issue a credit to your JetBlue travel bank immediately. You can immediately go online and rebook at the low rate and use your travel bank to Pay.
you don’t get a refund back in cash but you can use the remaining credit within a year.
I just did this last night after also being denied over the phone.

I just went and looked at my flights to Disneyland for spring break. They're MORE expensive than when I booked: the cheapest option is $676 and it goes up to over $1400. This is for main cabin, round-trip, domestic travel within the same time zone. o_O

Check and see if your flights have been changed/cancelled. I just noticed that JB cancelled my flight today for July (it was still there last night), they got rid of the 8:22a between BOS and MCO and put me on the 7am flight. That should allow for a refund and not a credit.

So JetBlue got cute. The cancelled the 820a flight but gave the 6a flight that flight number That would have been enough to give me a refund instead of a free change. However, they moved me to the 7a flight so the change was under 2 hours so all they had to give me was a free change. But they said they would give me a "one time courtesy" of refunding the entire amount into a travel bank with no change fees assessed.

So now it means one more trip somewhere with what will be left in my travel bank as the fares have gone way down :)

This could be due to the airline agency cancelling flights due to the coronavirus and now more people/less flights.

THIS is what I wanted to do! Our flights from BDL to MCO for APril3/9 have dropped insanely and I would love to rebook!

So glad you posted! My husband is taking the kids to see his mom in April. I just checked their SW flights and they're down $30 a person. I just got a $90 credit for the same flight. Thanks!

Data point: Jet Blue travel vouchers can not be used for any extras, including seat assignments.

My travel voucher paid for the flights, but I had to use a credit card to reserve our seats. No biggie, but I was thinking maybe I’d splurge on seats farther up with the extra from the difference in flight prices. So looks like it’s the back of the plane for us, but we’re guaranteed to be together, which is all I really care about.

thanks for that info! But you can pay for your seat assignments where ever you want, just not with the vouchers.. not a bad deal!!

What fare type did you have? I called and was denied cancelling or changing with the blue basic fare. Frustrating, as JB has cancelled my flight, but rebooked me on a flight just within their 60 minute rule— no change allowed. I booked a week before the 2/27 free cancellation allowance and asked if it could be applied to my booking, as I am traveling on dates within the allowance and was told no. I will try the chat if anyone has had success changing a blue basic flight. The agent said I am not eligible because of the blue basic fare.

I think refunding to a travel bank is at the discretion of the agent. I mean, it doesn’t hurt to ask again (definitely try), but I think maybe it’s a matter of who is dealing with your case rather than the method of contact.

Even when using the app’s chat feature, you still have to luck into an agent who is willing to override the policy that those bookings are non refundable.

@Mainemama, are you looking to rebook for a better fare or are you mainly looking for flexibility if your trip gets cancelled? If it’s the latter, they might be more willing to work with you closer to your dates if, in fact, you need to cancel.

I’m seeing some amazing prices and would totally jump on them but then I look at hotel prices and I’m not seeing a big enough difference to jump on them. Not just to MCO, but NYC and a couple other places we’d like to make a quick visit to.
