Flight of Passage Question

We are hoping to get on Flight of Passage this trip, but if not, we will keep trying. So the questions are:

1) I tend to have slight cases of vertigo, but not all the time. If I can handle Soarin' and Star Tours without any issues, will I be ok on Flight of Passage? If we are able to get on during rope drop, I just don't want to be miserable the rest of the day.
2) If our son decides to not ride, can we do rider swap? He doesn't really care for Soarin but will ride it at least once with us, so we are hoping he will at least try this ride once.

I also have some mild motion sickness. I cannot do the teacups and Mission Space Orange did me in (still glad I tried it once). Star Tours I am usually okay with, though occasionally I have to close my eyes; Soarin' has never caused me problems (and is my favorite attraction!). All of that said, I loved FOP. If you sound like my issues are not far from yours, you'll be fine. Hope you have a great trip (whether you get to FOP or not)!

1) Yes.
2) Maybe. Guests who are actually tall enough to ride an attraction may (or may not)
be given the option of being issued at Rider Swap pass.
And, that can vary by day or time, depending on the CMs staffing the ride entrances.

To answer your first question, I think you will probably be ok. We just came back from a week at WDW, and I rode FOP twice. I normally do fine on Soarin' but can't ride Star Tours unless I close my eyes (extreme nausea), and I can't most of the Universal Rides (Harry Potter, Spider Man, The Simpsons) without getting horribly sick (extreme nausea, headaches, feel like I'm going to pass out). I took a regular (not non-drowsy) Dramamine one hour before I rode it the first time and I was totally fine--no nausea whatsoever. However, I made sure to "follow" the flight path of the Banshee with my eyes and not look around at any other scenery. The second time (several days later) I was a little bolder...I took my Dramamine an hour before again, but I tried to look around a bit during the ride and did get a bit nauseous...it was uncomfortable but manageable. It is IMHO much gentler than Star Tours, but a little more intense than Soarin', if that helps.

And to answer your second question, the family in front of us on our second ride did the rider swap with no problem.

Enjoy!

If they won’t let you swap outside the ride with the swap pass they should let you do a swap at the ride just before loading.

It's a very similar experience to Soarin'. If you are okay on Soarin' I would think you'd be okay on FoP.

Thanks everyone! We were actually able to get a fast pass for Flight of Passage this morning for our trip at the end of May! We were very excited! Guess I will see then how well I handle it. Always helps to keep trying to modify the existing fast passes.

I've had some motion sickness on rides - mainly the spinning ones it seems. I had no problems with Soarin' or Star Tours but FOP was a problem for me. I think for me it was the simulated drops that were more like a roller coaster for me. There was also an area where I think you went upside down (simulated, of course). Those were the parts I had a problem with. In the areas where you were flying straight I was was fine. Interestingly, my daughter who does not like going upside down or large drops on roller coasters loved this ride - she did it twice and would have done it more if she could have. I think I would give it a try and see how it goes.

Coming from someone who has to be kind of careful with Soarin' and Star Tours, my advice is to only ride FoP once. We rode it at rope drop and then turned around and rode it with a FP+ about 45 minutes later. Poor decision on my part, but it was just such an amazing ride I couldn't resist. The second time did me in, and I felt "off" the rest of the day. I truly think I would have been fine if I would have just stopped after the first ride. Another tip, and sorry I didn't have a chance to read the whole thread so someone might have already mentioned this, just keep looking straight forward toward the center of the screen. I find if I look around too much on simulation rides I feel worse. That being said, FoP is pretty cool and worth the risk! Good luck getting a FP+!

When we were there in January, Theater C was closed for "maintenance". AKA someone got sick and they had to clean it. We were right at the front of the line and chatted up the CM. They said that more people get sick on Theater C than the others, they think because the timing between the motion and the video is slightly out of sync. I'm not sure if there's truth to that, or if it's still an issue.. but couldn't hurt to request to avoid theater C.
