Whew! We just barely made it out of there. We were scheduled to fly out at 3 pm Sunday. We were COMPLETELY oblivious to the oncoming hurricane as we had just been enjoying Disney and not watching any real news. Friday morning as I was turning on the tv to the continuous cartoons on channel 97 the TV channel was, luckily, on The Weather Channel, and it was getting ready to post the local forecast, so I thought, "Oh, okay, I'll check out the weather for the day real quick....oh, my, a hurricane is coming this way." Well, they weren't forecasting very cleary at that time if it was going to hit or not, so we spent about an hour debating whether or not to change our flight plans. Called the airport, got a list of about 3 different flights we could switch to...debated another hour and called back to the airlines and found that only 1 of those flights were still open and made a last minute decision to switch our flights.
We are SO glad we did! Unfortunately, Friday morning at the parks were practically ruined because we worried all morning if we had made the right decision. We called Member Services to see if we would get our points back and at the time they said they hadn't made a decision. That made us feel like we made too rash of a decision and just blew a whole day and a half of our vacation...not to mention 40 points. But it turned out we get to keep our points...AND would have been stuck there till Monday at the earliest if we hadn't switched our flights trying to weather out a hurricane.
We definitely made the right decision and are safely at home. I hope all who are still in Florida remain safe throughout the storm.
