Flight arrives at 6:30PM, what to do for dinner?

(I agree that someone bringing pizza onto the plane is either a really bad case of "I didn't think" or "I'm an inconsiderate jerk.").

I guess I'm an inconsiderate jerk, then. Either that, or hungry, or both, because I've done this.:confused3

If someone else brought pizza on, I'd think that they were smart for planning ahead.

I would hope you weren't thinking, because pizza has an overwhelming smell.

(Popcorn from the microwave, too).

But now that you know, if you do it again, yes.

Then I'm proud to be an inconsiderate jerk, and yes, I'll do it again. Too bad for those who don't like the delicious smell of pizza. Mmmm...pizza.

I work in an office that's basically one huge room with many cubicles. In some ways, similar to an airplane, with lots of people confined to a small space. Some people work until midnight, and almost every evening there is a delivery of food to a bunch of people who have gone in and placed a big order.

So frequently, in the evening, I will smell people's pizza, or Chinese food, or chicken that they've ordered for their supper. I've never thought that they were thoughtless or jerks for wanting to eat. Just that they were hungry and that it smelled good, and that I wished I could have some, if none was mine.

But your office doesn't have rules against ordering and consuming food. Nor is the person say in charge of answering phones also then responsible for cleaning any messes your coworkers leave behind ie a spill or even just trash thereby not able to do their primary job. So your analogy kind of fails. However I have worked in offices that didnt allow popcorn to be popped because of the smell

There's rules against eating food on planes? That's what I'm comparing this to: those who say eating pizza on a plane is inconsiderate. I fail to see how.

Let me be as clear as I can be: If I know that I'm going to be on a long flight and will be hungry during the flight, I will buy food at the airport to eat on the flight. If my choice of what to buy is pizza, I will buy pizza and then carry it on the plane and eat it on the plane. If someone on the plane doesn't like the smell of my pizza, that's too bad, but I'm hungry and I choose to eat pizza on the plane.

Airlines allow people to eat on their planes. DME doesn't allow people to eat on their buses. So, I'll eat on the plane, if need be. I won't eat on a DME bus, because there's rules against it. I'll throw away my own garbage on the plane and won't expect anyone else to clean up my stuff. Just as when I'm in the office. And if someone in the office doesn't like the smell of my food there, or someone on the plane doesn't like the smell of my food on the plane, that's just too bad. I'll eat it, and they can recover, after it's eaten.

Apparently, the only reason I should go hungry is because someone on the plane MAY not like the smell of my pizza. Not a good enough reason for me to go hungry.

I don't see anyone suggesting you go hungry - I only see people suggesting that you consider food choices that are less obnoxious to the rest of the plane.

You are right - planes don't have rule against eating on them (nor is anyone here suggesting that they should) nor do must of them restrict what you can eat (with the exception of some flights where they do ask people to avoid peanuts and/or tree nuts), but airlines do assume that most people have common courtesy.

Oh good grief...common courtesy ? Enjoy your pizza man :thumbsup2 everyone can find something that will annoy them , we don't live in a bubble

:thumbsup2. I plan to enjoy every delicious bite!! I feel sorry for anyone who thinks I'm an inconsiderate jerk because I have pizza. I'll figure that they're really just jealous because all they have to eat is cheese cubes and dried fruit, while I'm enjoying warm, fresh pizza!:cool1:

I find it inconsiderate because planes are very tight closed in spaces. Those around you can't escape the smell and in the case of a pizza box, you're very likely encroaching on the space of the person next to you. Maybe I'm more sensitive to this because two of our four have severe motion sickness. My DS28 refuses all food and snacks on the plane even with his meds. He tries to fall asleep as soon as possible. The strong smell of something like pizza (his favorite food by the way) adds to his discomfort.

Honestly, if you are buying food in the airport, why not just eat it before boarding? Our flight to Hawaii left LAX at 6:00pm. We had a rental car to return and wanted to allow for LA traffic. Everything went smoothly so we were checked in by 4 with 2 hours to wait. We got pizza and ate before boarding. We took nothing on the plane and got a snack after landing on Oahu.

just leave your shoes on...:rotfl: so silly how these threads end up OP had a question and then next thing you know ....people need to go back to MYOB ;) like I said EVERYONE of us can offend someone else your deodorant ( or lack there of ) cologne maybe the book that somreone is reading offends someone else ..honestly..

Why not eat it before boarding? Uh, because I don't want to?

We flew from a mid-Atlantic city to one in the Rockies a few years ago. The plane stopped in Chicago, but we didn't deplane. It was at least a 5-hour total flight, counting both legs. We ate breakfast on the drive to the airport. Picked up sandwiches and salads there for our lunch, which we ate on the plane.

Why not let me eat my pizza in peace? Why do I have to do things the way you would do them? Let me do my things my way.

Everything went smoothly for you? That's great. I've flown and very narrowly made connections because the first flight was delayed. Didn't have time to buy anything to eat on the second plane, much less sit down and eat it in the terminal. That's life. I'm sure people were eating around me, and I was hungry. I didn't demand that they stop eating the food that smelled so good to me, and tormented me with their deliciousness. That was my problem, not theirs.

Good point and another reason to plan ahead and pack snacks. I didn't demand that anyone stop eating. Merely suggesting that there are many choices that wouldn't make those around you nauseous.

Wow, I've never been on a plane where someone has been eating a hot stinky meal! Does every meal need to be hot? Just grab a sandwich! Planes are so tight - try not to encroach on people, physically, with noises (use headphones), or with smells (warm garlic isn't pleasant in close quarters). It's just polite.

Absolutely agree! Everyone is worried about smelly food. At least that is a yummy smell. I've brought burger and fries on before. I'm sorry if my food offends you BUT your overbearing perfume gets me, or how about the ones who for various reasons don't wear deodorant and who have excessive body odor or bad breath and are constantly encroaching on your personal space or babies with stinky diapers? (And yes I'm a mom so I know about some unavoidable issues). These bother me so we all have things that bother us and we just have to deal sometimes :)

We have traveled longer than that with connections, etc. so I don't see what the big deal is (unless you are diabetic or have a medical issue). You eat a decent breakfast, maybe a sandwich while waiting to get on the plane or some snacks and then eat when you get to the resort and / or parks. That's what I have done with DH, me, three preschoolers, and on two trips my parents. No one starved, the kids enjoyed eating snack food they don't normally get an we had a fun meal when we got there - BOG and 1900 Park Fare the last two trips. To get to WDW we get to the airport around 9:30, fly around 11:00 and don't get to the resort until 6 or 7.

Air canada sells pizza onboard! Anyone that wants it buys it to eat. What is the problem?

I guess we folks who want to ear in flight need to fly the friendly skies of Air Canada!! :)
