Ok with talks about flex acct. This year we had a lot of stuff to claim like braces, glasses and contacts. Next year We wont have as many. I'm able to claim up to $2500 so I'm starting early and making my list.

What are some non RX items that qualify over the counter?

Some non RX over the counter items I get are
-pregnancy test
-little noses spray (when my sinus get dry this helps)
-sea bands
-shoe inserts with ball and arch support( i suffered from plantar faccitiis )

Things i just found out qualify
-Preferred Plus Callus / Corn Plane
-headache cool pad for your head i think
-Forehead Thermometer (i need to get one can someone recommend a good one?)
-Foot care- Dr. Scholl's mole skin
-heating pads electric or the patches

Would love to hear some other items people claim other than the regular stuff like bandaides etc . Would like to hear some items that one wouldnt know qualified. Thanks

Why not check the IRS website?

http://www.irs.gov/publications/p502/index.html

You mentioned contacts - don't forget about you can also include the cost of equipment and materials required for using contact lenses, such as saline solution and enzyme cleaner in addition to the contacts.

Thanks for the link. I figured it would be nice to see what others list because sometimes not all items are on the list. Like i didnt know calous removers were covered and shoe inserts for arch and ball support.

Yes I did send in my recipets for contact solution/cleaner

I think your irs link is to 2011. You need the 2012 link. They were changes effective 1/1/12, I think - some things like benadryl and tylenol, now require a script.

ETA - since OP is planning for NEXT year, you may want to find information on covered expenses for 2013 - not sure what the changes are

I wish they would go back to letting us get cold meds over the counter without a RX. Some of my Dr. are good about it and others seem annoyed. DH's dr. didnt know what he was talking about so didnt give him one for cold med that was last year.

I really like the heavy duty one that retails for around 35.00 at walmart. I can't think opf brand name.

Sunglasses. Just need to by them at the Eye Doctor, they can either by prescription or 20/20.

Goodnights - if you have any little ones who need them. Just have to get a Dr's "letter of medical necessity".

You can also get reimbursed for mileage to and from medical appointments and visits to the drug store or pharmacy to pick up your medications. As of Jan 1,2012 it was $.23 per mile.

OMG! I didnt know we could count the mileage to the pharmacy. I thought it was ineligible. I didnt realize it change. Thanks for the tip

Sunscreen

For over the counter items, you need a script, which I think is completely ridiculous. The doctor is not likely to give you a script for anything unless you come in for an exam.

I like to periodically check Drugstore.com - they have a whole FSA section with items that are FSA eligible.

Really sunscreen? I did not know that or the contact solution, thanks!!

I have gotten sunscreen at Walgreens that I was able to use my FSA account (debit card) but not at Wal-Mart for the same kind.

Like someone else mentioned, contact solution is eligible.

Band-Aids are another one.
