Hi, I am a travel agent who just had clients get back from All Star Sports. They have been infested with fleas and I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I am in contact now with Disney for several reasons, have someone check the room, clients are furious and make sure this happens to no one else.

I know I heard about lice a few months back but there doctor has confirmed fleas and a complete infestation. Any similar situations??

All it takes is one dog. Years ago, my neighbors dropped by and brought their flea ridden dog in with them. My carpet was FILLED with fleas; I could SEE them hopping around on the carpet; I was covered with bites...all because of one visit from one dog.

YUKKKKK.......... :earseek: I didn't think vistors pets were allowed in the resorts. I can't concieve of a service dog being flearidden. Wonder where they came from? :confused3

I've heard of bed bugs, but never fleas. Wow!

Wow - hadn't heard of this one. If it's true, maybe one of the employees had fleas on them from their pet? In any event, I hope they've fumigated.

But please, if you're planning on staying at an All-Star Resort, don't let this change your mind. They're normally VERY well kept up.

Disney does not allow pets!!! How would All Star get fleas??? I have asked if they allow pets and I've always been told no.

Wow, this I have never heard of--lice, bedbugs, fireants, but never fleas.

you know on another thread , there are people who are booking all stars but staying elsewhere --- so i was thinking. Maybe the people left their DOGS and CATS to relax at the hotel while they are staying at another resort..........sorry , its a hot day here at home.

We were ther the third week of July....NO BUG OR FLEAS.....What area was it in? Nothing against people from other countries but there were about 30-50 in the Touchdown and the Hoops....Not saying they brought them but I have heard other places that groups from other countries have stayed have had problems..

 EWWW.....never had any problem like that the 3 times we stayed at AS...Thank God!

I guess its situations such as this that cause DM to spray the entire room (including beds!) with Lysol, no matter how clean the room looks when we arrive! :confused3

While that is true. Rules only stop the people who follow them. Two weeks ago while on a bus back to Pop from Epcot a couple had two small dogs hidden in bags with them on the bus. The dogs were certainly going to be staying in there room. Not to mention the fact that dogs are also not allowed on WDW transit or in the parks (except for guide dogs). These people were clearly breaking all of the rules.

It could have come from the family that stayed in the room before them. Possibly on their clothes and in their luggage from home. Unfortunately there are hundreds of people over the course of a year staying in each room and not everyone is that clean. YUCK!!!!

Good luck
My children and I stayed at POR in April and my DD had bed bug bites. Took her to the doc and bought the meds.
Called Disney, well I was told in no uncertain terms that what bite my daughter was not a bed bug etc etc from Disney's Legal dept.
My responce to her was "So Disney's legal dept is more educated than the medical field?" She told me yes.
Don't get me wrong I was not looking for anything I just wanted to inform them and to really clean that room.
POR was always are home away from home so to speak. NOT anymore.
It has left a very bad taste in my mouth

There are different types of Fleas. Maybe they didn't come from a animal at all. There are a type of flea named sand flea that live in sand.

Do a search on google and see all the different types of fleas.

Oh great! :earseek:
That is disgusting! :crazy2:
I think the Lysol thing is a good idea. It wont kill fleas, but if there are fleas, what else is lurking??? :scared: :cat: :maleficen

Unless I'm being actively bitten, I do better if I just don't think about what else is lurking...

Disneydreamerinny- Nice to 'see' another person who lives so far upstate! Have a great trip--November will be a nice time to get out, though I've found that a little WDW in February is nice, too!

Back in my early teens, I spent the night at a friend's house. Her family had a dog and I noticed fleas biting me that night. When I got home our house was suddenly infested with fleas and we didn't have a dog or cat. My mom thought my sleeping bag had fleas in it from the friend's house and they had relocated to our house. It was horrible! We had to fumigate the whole house.

So I'm just wondering if someone possibly traveled to WDW and brought a few tiny friends (and maybe not the actual dog) with them. There's no way that Disney would know about it until someone complained. Then they'd have to fumigate.

I don't think it's a matter of cleanliness (or lack thereof). It just happens. Thank goodness for flea meds! Our dog has never had any.

Keep in mind that Florida is home to many insects that are unique to the region. There are actually flying insects in central Florida whose bites can be mistaken for bed bugs. While it is possible they were bed bugs in your case, it is equally possible that they were not. Additionally I would not dispute the fact that they were more knowledgeable than the medical field. I don't mean to offend any doctors out there but in my experience they are wrong about 50% of the time. Not to mention if you go to three different doctors with the same problem you will get three very different answers. I find the weather man right more often (but that’s just in my experience).

There are petting zoo animals at FW and at AK park. Plenty of people stay at the resorts and visit the kennel 2-4x daily to take their pets out for a walk. What about horseback riding at FW? I wonder if someone just got fleas on their clothing this way and then they brought them back to their room, the fleas reproduced and there was an infestation. It's not necessarily due to someone's misbehavior or lack of cleanliness. This also brings to mind the issue of baggage handling where luggage is piled together in hotels, shuttle buses, airports and airplanes.

It's really hard to be sure where someone gets a flea infestation. Common fleas don't live on humans at all. They live on animals. All it takes is a visit from an animal or very close contact to get them in your home. They normally "feed" on an animal (dog, cat, mouse :earseek:, squirrel, bunny, etc.) then get off the animal to lay eggs on a stationary surface. When the eggs hatch, the young fleas eat tiny bits of animal or human skin that accumulates on the ground/carpet near where animals/people live. Once mature, they need blood nutrients to reproduce, so they look for an animal (dog, cat, squirrel, mouse, etc.) to live on and bite. There is a lag in time from the egglaying until the offspring are looking for a blood meal. A common time for people to discover a household infestation is right after they return home from a trip. The eggs laid in the home prior to the trip are now hungry young adults. With no pet around to feed off, they will "settle" for the humans who return to the area and attack before getting away to lay their eggs!

All of this is to say, that the people themselves don't get infested. Their belongings may get infested or their home or hotel room. Disney will not likely own up to their responsibility for this problem unless they get complaints while someone is actually in the room. If they learned of this problem in a more timely manner, they could have relocated the family and de-fleaed the room. If the family didn't have a problem until they got home, it probably was not fleas at the hotel.
