Ok, We are finally upgrading our TV from the early 90's to a Flat Panel. The TV we purchased is a 47". I went out yesterday and bought a Sauder TV Stand and after reading up on it, I'm not sure if it will fit my new TV. I'm confused since most other TV Stand Brands stated up to what inch TV it holds. Sauder only says "fits base up to 43". By Base, do they mean the stand on the bottom of the TV, or the length of the TV screen? In the store this TV Stand looked big enough, so I just bought it, now before I open it, I need to know if the size will work. Is there a rule of thumb when buying TV stands for Flat Panels?

If I bought the wrong one, Can someone recommend one under $250? I swear when I bought the TV, budgeting for a Stand was not on my mind. Seems like all the stands I like are $500 or more and I can't spend that much.

TIA!

It is a pretty stand,
we had a hard time figureing out a stand for our 50 inch. A good rule of thumb is that the width will somehow be almost the same as the "screen size" (I always thought they would be different but DH has been measuring like crazy, because we have been trying to fit one in a specific space in our RV.) What really matters, is where the spearkers are, AND how you want it to look. The base is what sits on the top of the stand, most of the time, this is smaller than the screen. This stand will hold your tv.. BUT, it will look better if the screen is smaller than the stand top, not hanging over. Yours could hang over by maybe 2 inches on each side if the speakers are hidden or more if the speakers are on the sides. If you are ok with a little hang over :thumbsup2 then you are fine!:hippie:

What is the actual width of the TV (should be in the manual)? I am guessing this might be too narrow.

We just bought at 50" and the unit we got is 54" wide and it just fits. We got ours from Ikea for $299. Not the best piece of furnitue in my house but it will do just fine!

Here are some specs:

Set width (with stand) (inch) 43.56 inch
Set height (with stand) (inch) 28.24 inch
Set depth (with stand) (inch) 12.17 inch
Product weight (+stand) (lb) 53.57 lb

I looked at Ikea as well, but those stands were too low for my liking.

Yeah, the Hang over would annoy the crap out of me, lol! Maybe I could use this stand until I can afford the one I really want, then put this one in another room on a 42in TV. Sounds like this stand will not work:(

We got our stand at Best Buy, for our 50 inch. We originally had a lower all glass stand that the TV hung over by about an inch on each side, it really did not look that bad, but it looks much better on the wood one. What we really hated about the glass stand was that we had to look down to see the tv. It was annoying and the new wood one only raised the TV about 5 inches but that made a world of differnce.

I would try the one you have so you have a base line, We paid 900.00 for the expensive glass Bello one, that I hated, then ended up paying 500 for the wood one that we love, at least you are starting out with a lower cost one that you may love!:hippie:

We wanted to put a tv in our guest bedroom so we started looking at auctions and yard sales for a piece of furniture that would match what was already in the room. We found a 100-year old dresser that had a marble top, lots of charm but needed some TLC. We cleaned it all up first. Next we darkened it up with walnut stain. We were going to line the drawers with felt but my wife found this roll of nonslip black foam in Michaels that looks and works beautiful. Finally we looked on Ebay and got a set of 6 drawer pulls, about 70 years old and with a nice patina. Total cost was about $125, a couple of hours to clean it up and a week to stain/dry/stain/dry, which worked out nicely because we were waiting for the drawer pulls to show up anyway. Remotes, dvds, manuals, etc., are stored in the drawers. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

OMG, What a Beautiful piece! I wish I could do something like that, I'm not that creative. You did an awesome job! I need you to come do my table, lol!

I shopped everywhere for a tv stand for out 42in tv. I finally got a sofa table from the unfinished furniture store. It was $166 and I had to stain it but I was able to match my other furniture. I was looking for something with doors so I could hid the wii games and stuff. I did cut out the middle door to put the cable box in.
