Just trying to finish up some last eating plans. We leave
in 6 days!!!

Our first day is AK , we ate at rainforest last time and I was not
too impressed, wasn't sure how flame tree or tusker house
would stand up, better or worse than rainforest? Which do
you think?

Our last day is Saturday March 22, we had planned to do
MGM and have a great dinner out but now with the MK evening
parade only being offered on Saturday I guess we will go to
MGM that morning and head over to MK for that evening to see
the parade.

So any good counter service at MGM, is MGM close enough to
the boardwalk to go there for lunch? Brown Derby seems to
expensive and we tried and didn't like Mama Melrose last time.

How do you work in a dinner with parade at 7:15??

Thanks for your help

First, understand that FlameTree BBQ and Tusker's House are both counter service. The only full service restaurant is the Rainforest.

I love the food at the FlameTree BBQ... especially the BBQ Chicken Salad but I have never eaten at Tusker's or the AK Rainforest so I really can't compare.

As far as MGM, I am not a huge fan of their counter service, I think the best one is probably Pizza Planet which is over by the Muppet movie.

Have a Fun Trip!!

On our last trip we were pleasantly surprised with the selection at the ABC Commissary in DS. It's right next to SCIFI.
We'd walked by it a million times and decided to stop in!

As far as AK, we like Tusker House alot. However, the lines can be long at "normal" eating times because they usually don't have all the lines open and staffed . Go in slightly off times and you won't have any problems. The food is unique and healthy for a good value.

You should be able to download menus from the website. I'm just not up on how to do that.

A hidden gem in MK is the taco place right by the Pirates. I never can remember the name, but that's not a problem. We certainly remember the food and now go there each time we're in MK for a snack or meal. That's quick counter service that you could work in prior to the parade.

Happy eating !!

We're big Flame Tree fans! There food is very good for counter service, IMHO. The eating areas for Flame Tree are so peaceful and relaxing. I've heard great things about Tusker House too, but we just don't seem to be in that area for lunch.

At MGM if we are doing counter service we usually do Pizza Planet. It's alright and DD likes the Toy Story characters on the building.

For our parade night at MK we actually didn't eat dinner until after we left the park. We had a snack during the parade and fireworks and then ate when we got back to AKL.

Keeping in mind that the choices are limited at the counter service (as opposed to the larger menu at Rainforest) we've eaten at Tusker house many many times. The salmon is out of this world and the vegies are always fresh and tasty.

I'm not sure if they still have this for the kids, but the peanut butter and jelly sandwich was on a gorgeous rainbow bread! Our grand daughter hated to eat it it was so pretty!

Thanks everyone, sounds like either Tusker House or
Flame tree is pretty good, we will try to eat a little late
and see if we can avoid the lines .

You are all a big help!

Flametree BBQ is wonderful. I had the bbq chicken sandwich and my husband had the ribs. Both were great and I forgot to mention the beans very good. We had tusker house for breakfast not lunch but it was good too. Just regular breakfast food, but nice and hot.

We did not have a good experience with Rosie's in MGM so I would not recommend that.

We like both, but have to give the advantage to Tusker House. On a hot day, it is nice to be able to take advantage of the aircondition. Also, the food is more like full service there. If you sit outside, you can enjoy the live African band and dancers.

Tried out Tusker House for the first time on my last trip, and really enjoyed it. We split an order of rotisserie chicken and potatoes. I think we had green beans too. It was delicious! The day we were there was drizzly, so it was nice to be able to sit inside too.

Flame Tree BBQ did smell wonderful when we walked by, but we weren't ready to eat yet. Hope to try it out next time. :D
