Coming down from NC & hoping to stay about 1- 1.5 hrs from Disney the night before we check in so we can arrive early the next day. Someone recommended Flagler Beach. Is it safe & family friendly? Which hotels can you recommend that would be on or across the road from the beach? We want to show the kids the ocean. We will only be there 1 night.

It's not on the beach - maybe four or five miles away, just off I-95 and the Flagler Hospital - but there is a Hilton Garden Inn in the area. I'm not sure if it's in Palm Coast or Flagler Beach.

We're going down (from SC:) a night earlier. We were looking at St Augustine Hilton Garden Inn on the bay, or Hampton Inn on the beach. HGI is on the bay, you're right across from the water , you can see it and watch the boats...and can walk to EVERYTHING...restaurants, just walking all around the historic sites is really beautiful, and a good relaxing place to go before you hit the streets of Disney! Plus HGI not very old. There are tons of B&B, but most don't allow kids under X age :sad2:
We'll prob choose HGI, because we love the old town so much :)
Hampton is on the beach (A1A) RIGHT on the beach. No walking across the street. Most at St Augustine are on the beach. But it IS mostly condos on the beach, and some older hotels, so Hampton would be my first choice for a beach hotel there. Haven't stayed there before but Hampton are usually nice and clean. Both were running about $109 a night for end of Nov. Which is GREAT compared to high season.
We've been to St Augustine a million times and never get tired of it!!! It's very family friendly and a beautiful place...and the kids can see a little history while there:) But I would suggest a good vacation some other time to see it all. There is ALOT to do there. We've done it all and it's like new every time. We usually get a condo on the beach. It's a very wide, pretty beach. Lots of sand dollars, startfish, shells. Love it. Most of all it's NOT commercial, wild and crazy like Myrtle Beach can be!!
If you go to St Aug, go for dinner at Salt Water Cowboys!! It's AWESOME!!!!!!! I'm ready to go now!

Oh- there is also a Hampton at Vilano beach, right around from the historic part of St. Aug. It's a very pretty hotel- spanich style. Not many people around that beach. The rest of Vilano is older and some spots look a little run down. Nothing much but houses and I think a gas station. but it's just about 10 mins from the historic part of town too. Hampton St Aug. beach is about 10 mins too. Salt Water Cowboys is about 15-20 mins from Hist. St Aug. off of A1A. You can probably google it....you have to go!
