I've been talking to people about our upcoming trip and I'm surprised at the number of people who don't know that there is a flag retreat every day in MK and they honor a different Veteran or Active Duty Service Member during the ceremony. So I was wondering if this is just for those who don't plan like we do here, or if it's not widely known on the Dis as well?

I've seen it many times over the years.
The exact way it is performed has evolved over time.

It's a reverent and meaningful event.

As a retired Marine I make a special point of watching once a trip and taking the girls to it as well. As I tell them I wore the uniform to help make sure you never have to.
Thank you for your service. We ran into 2 former Marines last time we watched the lowering and chatted while we waited for the ceremony to start. One had done the ceremony in memory of a friend who was KIA (yeah, like I wasn't going to get teared up during the ceremony anyway)
I really love how Disney honors our Service Members

I try to be there at least once a trip. It is a lovely way to pay homage to those who serve our Country. It gives me chills every time.

Thank you Sir, for your service. I have several nephews who served in the USMC and so that branch of the military holds a very special spot in my heart. Right now my only active niece is a Coastie , but her siblings and cousins are Marines.

I always make a point to watch it. If you view from the railroad station platform, you can watch the band play their opening fanfare, then take their spot to watch the rest of the ceremony after they leave.

I watched and waited for the Flag retreat a few weeks ago. Although there was a light mist, I felt it was not an inconvenience to do so. I am so happy that MK does a bit a pomp and circumstance everyday in this way. Even in WDW , a reflection to show honor of our flag is important.

If I were going to be in the MK for a few times over a weeks vacation, I'd see it once.

Over the years we've seen it a few times, but always by chance. However, this past January my wife and I made a point to head up front at MK just to watch it. I was very happy that we did too. I greatly appreciate how Disney does this and the meaning behind it. I really enjoyed that they had actual veterans or service members as part of it too. Well worth my time and I will try to never miss another one.

@KenHutch - Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

We’ll be there for a big family trip in July. My nephew, a firefighter in the Air Force, will be with us. I wish there was a way to sign him up for this, but from what I understand, the partipants are chosen by a cast member by chance on the morning of.

I had heard wearing a hat or shirt w/ a military logo on it ups your chances.
We got there a little early last time and the Dapper Dans asked my kids to lead the pledge, it was so cool. They even gave them a little card to celebrate it

You can always head straight to first relations and ask, the worst thing they can say is no

We never experienced until 2 years ago when we were at Tony’s dinner and were seated in the outdoor patio or whatever it is called and got to see it from our table. We recently were there but they gave us a table indoors this time so 2 of us went outside while waiting for our food to see it.
