Flag Retrea Ceremony

What is the Flag Retreat Ceremony?
It is listed on the calendar, and I don't know what it is, or where it is located, or what they do.
Any info would be great, thanks!

It's when the bring the flag down at the end of the day. They do this in Town Square. They play "The Star-Spangled Banner" and usually have people in military uniform or veterans there to help bring the flag down and fold it up. I've only seen it from the train station and never the whole ceremony.

The flag is lowered near sunset, as part of the general flag ettiquette.

The ceremony is performed by three Security Officers and are accompanied usually by recorded music or sometimes, by a live band, playing the National Anthem.

It is a very touching and powerful ceremony and I highly recommend watching it.

It is a very touching and powerful ceremony and I highly recommend watching it.

We have seen it several times and each time it was performed by a current military person they choose from the guests in attendance.

From mid-June to mid-August they have a live band, except on Sunday and Monday. There's an entire ceremony of about 10-15 minutes, during which time they play the theme song for each branch of the military, the Star Spangled Banner (please let me brag here-DS was the soloist on it last year), and a few other songs. There are 3 to 4 "regulars" there-military veterans who show up every day, and since it's held at 6:00 in the summer, they're military retirees who stood at attention whenever the theme for their particular military branch was played. It was very moving!

Dan Murphy has a great photo thread from when my father was "vetran of the day" at WDW. We pre-planned it and he wore his uniform. It was great!He got a free picture, a certificate, and a special VoTD pin. I don't know if they are that fancy at DL.
