I have got a question to pose to anyone who can answer it, my parents are going to Disney World with us in March along with my brother who all live in Florida seasonally. My brother goes to University of Miami and my parents own a home in Florida which they rent out and live in during the Winter. They do not have a Florida license nor do they have a Florida vehicle registration. They are trying to book the Florida Residents Rate in Disney World because it is just a small getaway for all of us. Would they qualify for it? and What identification is applicable? Could a paystub work from my brothers job?

Here's link info I copied re FL Res:

Your brother is the only one who will be able to book the room in his name as long as he has valid Id from UM. You will only be able to book one room in his name and he has to be in it with you. He is the only one that will be able to get his passes at the discounted rate as well. Disney has really cracked down on this as it's no longer available to those who own property in Florida as it's for Florida residents and technically your parents are not residents here unless they've claimed Florida as their permanent residence.
If you don't have the proper ID upon check in the rate will go to rack rate.

If your parents live there in the winter, couldn't they get Florida licenses? I mean, they have an address in FL, right?

They can but they have to surrender their license from the other state. They actually cut my NY license in half right in front of me and gave me back the picture side, like I wanted that!!!!!
Seriously, prior to doing this I would check to see the ramifications on getting a Fl license when you're really not a resident down here. To qualify as a resident you have to formally declare this your residency and there are steps involved. Remember if you change your license you do have to tell your car insurance company and it may change your policy somehow, not sure about that.

Well instead of having them get a florida Drivers Liscence have them ask for a FLorida ID card...maybe then they wont have to turn anything in

Your brother, as a FL college student (with ID) can book up to 3 rooms at the same resort for the same dates with his ID. However, he is the only one who is eligible for the ticket discount, since they require ID for each ticket. Make sense? At least it may save you on the rooms should a FL rate be available for your dates :)

That is exactly what they did to me 14 1/2 years ago.. cut it in half & gave me the pic
As far as my car insurance, I moved here from NY & my car insurance was cut nearly in half compared to what I was paying in NY for the same police & same company!

I am not sure but years ago, in order to be a real resident, you had to live in that house for over 6 months. I am not sure if this still applies.

Wow, when did the "Each adult in the party is required to have a Florida ID." take effect? I know for a Fl resident pass you need one for each but never heard for the room??? Wonder if they mean only for a pass. Makes no sence on the room... If you are paying for the room & it is in your name, they never ask for ID on anyone else, just the person booking.

Well as a part time Florida resident, I can tell you that the state of Florida will NOT cut your drivers license from your homestate in half if you apply for a part time resident license. I have one, as does my husband. We own a vacation home in Florida and make our real home in Georgia. If you check out the state of florida DOT they will give you the procedures on how to obtain a part time resident license. It is only valid in the state of Florida and DOES NOT require you surrender your home state license. If your parents are valid part time residents than by all means thy are eligible for the license and once they get the license they are eligible for the perks of Disney Florida Residents.

Absolutely correct! Thank you for clarifying this for others who may have been unclear on the matter. Many friends have used this option in other states as well. They maintain their "home state" license, and merely obtain a PTR license. Since we visit Fla for extended periods of time each year, (with some family members in residence there), we decided to check-into the FLA ID process. :confused3 We were actually compelled after some other friends obtained theirs very easily, and were entitled to many different perks and theme park promotions as a result.

We visited a central office of the DMV in Orlando off I-Drive, and within an hour--we all had our valid FLA ID cards (good for five/seven years, I can't recall off-hand). We even informed the associate at the counter of our intentions, and how we live in CALIF full~time, yet travel/stay in FLA for approx. 25% of each year (with family residing in the state). We had to supply a genuine address, (DH's mom), and our SS #'s, and that was it. We've had them two years, and have yet to use them. The other offers we have received for WDW, etc.--have been better than the FLA ressie ones (IMHO). They are more of a souvenir. :thumbsup2 But, it was an easy process. ;)

I also have a NY State ID card, having obtained it at 16 when I resided there with my family (who still lives there). I have had no problem renewing it. It offers me many perks, and is the card I show to use CC's or cash Checks when visiting family/friends in the Big Apple. (rather than my Ca. License).

The above posters are absolutly correct. All you need to do is schedule an appointment at the driver license office and apply for a Florida Only license. It's $20.00 and requires evidence of a Florida address and two forms of ID. Depending on the state, a valid drivers license is acceptable as a primary ID. The FL DMV website has all the states listed where you will need another form of primary ID. You can now schedule your appointments online (and I highly recommend that you do so) and for some offices, you can get same day appointments.

I own a home in Deltona and all of us (my family) have FL only licenses and also have our MA licenses. With those, we have FL resident AP's for both WDW and Sea World / Busch Gardens.
