Fixing Yeti...

I remember old thread about not fixing Yeti on Expedition Everest because it was the only coaster in the park and they’d have to close it down for too long.
I was hoping that with the addition of Pandora they’d go ahead and fix it ... but maybe that would just make the FoP line worse ...
But - if they actually have to close for a few weeks .... anyone think they’d take advantage lf that time and fix it ... or have so many people forgotten that it was ever animatronic that they just don’t care anymore?

If they close the parks for a few weeks I hope they don't put any CMs at risk by having them do any maintenance at all on anything.

YES, it would awesome to fix it.
Unfortunately, closing it down just to fix that likely isn't happening.
Eventually there will have to be a shutdown and it should be fixed then, because to ignore it and keep it the way it is would be a cheap way out. That's my opinion!

Yeah / I mean if they have to close anyway - because of covid19 ... like DLR just did.

As I recall reading, the structure was built as 3 independent structures. One for the mountain, one for the track, and one for the Yeti. To get to the Yeti base, they would need to tear down a large part of the mountain structure. Not likely that will happen. It was amazing when the Yeti worked.

Exactly. The major problem isn't the animatronic, it's the support tower. From what I understand, due to a miscalculation by the construction planning software they used, the concrete base of the tower wasn't cured properly and it shifted. Because of this, even if the animatronic is working, they can't run it in A-mode because it would put too much stress on the tower and put it at risk of collapsing. So fixing the yeti requires fixing the support tower, which would apparently mean tearing open the side of the mountain. Definitely not something that could be done in 2 weeks.

Conventional wisdom has always been that it would take 6-12 months to repair it.
I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer. 😏

Joe Rohde's response at D23 a few years ago when asked about the fixing the yeti described it as "a giant, complicated machine sitting on top of a 46-foot-tall tower in the middle of a finished building. It's really hard to fix."

1) Do not count on Yeti ever being fixed.
2) The problem is a structural one.
3) The ride would have to be at least 1/2 dismantled.
4) The contracted design engineees goofed.
5) The ride is actually THREE different and separate structures.
6) To get to the Yeti structure, the outer one needs to be torn down.

NOTE:
Fortunately, we got to ride it during the "preview period".
At that time, the Yeti's arm did attempt to grab you.
Pretty clever effect.
