Fixed week questions

We are trying to decide between buying 150 points at PVB and buying a fixed week option for beginning of December.

Few questions:

1. For this year, we would get 2014 points also. So my 118 points would be 130, right? And I would just ask to bank them? And I would have until aug 2015 to use those points?

2. Next year we want to do dlc. Our plan is to not use our fixed week this December, and instead pull those points out. We would then need to borrow from 2017. As soon as I pull some of the points from 2017 I lose my fixed week, right? So likely I am better off transferring points from someone else, or else selling my fixed week and buying points for dlc from another member, right?

If you elect to not use the fixed week, you convert to all points for that UY. All points can be banked or borrowed.

Assuming you are getting a December use year, the banking deadline is July 31. Just because you want a fixed December week doesn't mean you will be getting a December use year - although it is likely if you will be a brand new DVC member..

If you are getting another use year, the banking deadline will be different and if you are getting a February, March or April use year, you will not get 2014 points.

If you mean the Disney Cruise Line (when you say you want to do dlc), then IMO, your least expensive option is to pay cash for the cruise you want to take and either postpone your Poly purchase until after the cruise or rent out your fixed week or the points they represent.

Buying DVC points to use for a cruise is a very expensive way to cruise.

To answer your question, as soon as you "pull points from 2017", you lose the fixed week for that use year. You must opt out of the fixed week to use the points for anything other than the fixed week.

If you plan to cruise on a regular basis, consider paying cash for the cruises and buying only the number of points you need to stay at a DVC resort.

This is a relatively unbiased look at using points for something other than a DVC resort stay:

Using Points for the DVC "Collections"

Good luck with your decision.
