Fitting in Seven dwarfs mine train

Oh wow! I never imagined Disney would open a new and popular ride without taking into account the varying sizes of their guests. They have always been so good about that. We definitely have some Pooh size members in my friends and family circle and while there are many rides at Universal they have to miss out on, there have been no issues at WDW. I would be very interested in knowing if any ladies in the, say, size 26-28 range, particularly those who carry their weight more in the hips and thighs, are able to ride. I'd hate for them to go through the line and be turned away. :(

My friend/co-worker was at WDW last week and she is about 5'4" or 5'5" and probably wears a size 28ish (her t-shirt order at work was for a Lands End size 4X) . She is heavier in the hips and rear. She was turned away from the ride and was utterly humiliated. She says she wont ever go back to WDW. I feel terrible for her. I hope we see a change in seat configuration happen. There are a lot of larger people at WDW that are going to be embarrassed if they don't address it.

I fit into the 7DMT seat fine. I rode twice on the day the Avatar pic to the left was taken with Jasmine.

This is really surprising to me. I am a big guy and have always not fit into rides at US, like Hulk, Dueling Dragons, even the HP ride. But I always fit on everything at WDW. Including RnRC, and even SM. Even the test track and dinosaur lap belts are extra long and I have always wondered whether I am going to be a biscuit over or under having the ability of locking those belts into place, but I've always had zero problems..

I will be surprised and a little saddened if they didn't keep the same idea in mind when making this ride. But the more I read, the less I think I will fit and I am in for the walk of shame. Oh well. I'm Ok with my size so it is what it is. But I could see this being embarrassing for some folks who are more sensitive.

For people who are tall they can't exactly cut off their ankles, but as a fat girl myself, they don't have to "keep us in mind". We can lose weight. Or at least, the majority of us can. I'm perfectly aware there's lots of people out there with medical issues, but maybe the rest of us just need to hit a treadmill a little more often. I certainly am after hearing that I might be tight in a few rides. Besides, who wants to get stuck on a scooter and be the stereotypical fat person rascalling over toddlers in a mad putter putter rush to get to wherever?

I'm mostly joking but really, if you're on the side of fat where you feel eyeballs on you when you have an ice cream cone in public (that's where I am and where most people are that will have trouble fitting on this thing), it's probably better that you try your best to drop some weight before you go anyway. Your joints and feet will thank you. Even if it's just 5 pounds, hey, you did good. You might not be able to vacuum seal yourself into SDMT. But you Tried. Gold star.

The restraint bar didn't bother me that badly, but the seat itself was really uncomfortable due to the countoured design. I don't think it mattered to much in our group of multisized adults - everyone noticed it. We were all disappointed in it in general though - except for the smoothness of the coaster itself.

I'm 6'3" and 260lbs. I'm not really nervous about not fitting on SDMT but it's kinda disappointing that it seems it'll be uncomfortable. At least the ride is short.

I went on Forbidden Journey in Islands of Adventure when it first opened (before they added bigger cars for "Shrek sized" people) and a CM (TM at Universal) had to help push down the restraint until it clicked. I imagine SDMT will be uncomfortable but not to the point where most of us can't ride.

After reading similar posts earlier in the thread I was expecting to be turned away, but rode Wednesday and yesterday with no problems at all. I am about the same size and build as your friend and while I would have liked more leg room, I had no problem with my thighs fitting between the bars or the lap bar going far enough to latch.

I am "pooh sized", and I was VERY uncomfortable. My legs were squashed. I'm tall, 5'9", and have big legs. It hurt, I won't lie. They definitely did not make it pooh size friendly. I was able to get the restraint down somewhat.

There are no tester vehicles outside of the ride but we honestly didn't find them TOO small. :confused3

My DH is a larger guy - about 5'11" and over 300 pounds. He did say that his knees were a little more "pressed together" than he would have liked but he comfortablly rode it 4 times last week.

Most people will have nothing to worry about.

DD and I went on it last week. I was fine. She is 5'10" and about 140. She said her hips were on the contour edges.
I am going to tell DH, DS and DDIL not to even try.
DH is 6'4" and 280, DS same height but heavier. He has been turned away at other parks, so not even going to try this one.

I hear your point, they can't accommodate every last person. But I do think the lap bar design could have been different and I bet we will see a redesign of some seats in the future.

And if anyone is wondering - yes they will put a stranger next to you if you are a single rider.

To make sure the ride cars are full, at the loading area the CMs direct odd-numbered groups to the left and even-numbered groups to the right. Then they load 2 odd-numbered groups together so that there are no empty seats.

I'm 5'9 and about 300 lbs wearing size 26/28. Most of my weight is in my hips and thighs.

I rode SDMT for the first time today and from the minute I pulled the lap bar down I realized this ride would not be enjoyable. I was already in so I went ahead and rode it but the side bars were digging into my legs so hard, it was so painful I couldn't enjoy the ride in any way. :-/

Hoping they do some kind of remodel to accommodate pooh sized guests. Thunder Mtn is a much "wilder" ride than this and it doesn't require the side bars. I can't imagine just having the bar pull down on the top of the legs wouldn't be just as safe...

I agree that it is mostly about weight/size distribution. I am pooh sized and have been able to ride every ride at WDW, although SM makes for a very awkward exit from the ride vehicle. I rode SDMT twice on my recent visit and found that the lap bar was very tight and uncomfortable. I was expecting bruises on the sides of my thighs, but they did not appear. Other pooh sized people who carry their weight in their belly may not have an issue.

It's not a long ride, so it was bearable, but I wouldn't ride it over and over again like I would on Everest or Rockin' Rollercoaster.

But this is fundamentally a kids ride so the seats are right IMHO. My 13 year old still gets thrown around in rides with lap bars when the adult or adults next to her mean it can't lower done any where near to her legs. On Tower of Terror she (and other kids of course) get thrown up and down between the lap bar and seat quite apart from the drop. In Big Thunder she just slides all over the seat. The design of 7DMT means that doesn't happen so much.

Tower of Terror has individual seatbelts and has for many years. The lap bar was removed a decade ago.

My bad example then for which I apologise. The point is a kids ride shouldn't be redesigned to accommodate people who are bigger than is necessary.

Our circle of friends has decided to wait until they put a tester out before we attempt to ride. There is just no way to know right now who will fit and who won't and no one wants to do the walk of shame. Hopefully they will have one by my September trip and then we can give it a try.

I am not even going to sugar coat it with "pooh sized". I am a large woman and to top it off, I have Lymphedema in both my legs. It means my legs are much larger than the average person. (google image for it, there are some scary and some not so much, i am in the not so much..yet)

ANYWAY with the side bars I am concerned that I will not fit, based on my legs. Does anyone have any similar experience with larger /wide legs and fitting?
