Hi fellow Canadians.

I am also from Chatham, Ontario. My family is planning our first trip to Disney
this October and we need alot of advice. First of all, when is the best time to
buy hopper passes. If anyone has camped at Fort Wilderness we would love to
hear from you. We are camping with a pop out trailer, and we have three children
ages 10 and under.

Don't believe I have any answers for you Dannette, but wanted to say welcome. I'm sure you will get the answers you are looking for if you stick around a while.

Regards
John

Hi Dannette and welcome. We have stayed at Fort Wilderness numerous times but it has always been in the homes and cabins. This summer will be our first "camping" in our pop-up at FW. FW is like no other campground you have been to... you'll be amazed and it will be the standard you compare all the others too. :D We have two children ages 6 and 4 and a half. If you have any questions I might be able to help you with, ask away. Be sure to check out the "Camping at Disney World" board here also. You can find all sorts of information about Fort Wilderness there.

As for the hopper passes, there is usually an annual price increase sometime around February, although I'm not sure if there has been one this year (I don't remember hearing of one). There is also a Canadian special on 7-day park hopper plus tickets but I believe the dates this year started in November which would be too late for you. Here is a link for more info about the special http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=113810

I would also suggest a character meal. They are a great opportunity for the kids to meet the characters. Our kids favourite is Chef Mickeys and this summer we are going to Mickey's Backyard BBQ for the first time.

Have fun planning your trip... it's almost as much fun as the trip itself.

WELCOME!

We had friends camp at FW and loved it! We will be visiting FW during our WDW trip next month. I'll write a report upon return.

TIPS:

(1) Buy way more film than you think you'll need and take pictures of everything! We average 12 rolls of film (including underwater camera for swimming with sharks at Shark Reef in TL) and 4.5 hours of video tape!

(2) I THINK ~ Last years Canadian deal went on sale Nov. 15 - April 20 to be used Nov 31 to May 13, last day of activation April 30th, 2002. It's a 6 month deal!

(3) Character meal a must! We average 6 per trip!

(4) PLAN PLAN PLAN PLAN PLAN and then do what you want when you get there! We plan something for everyday with intentions of changing them ~ we like the little spontaneous surprises, but still want to see everything!

(5) Get comfy that it's going to cost a lot! HAVE FUN!

Hi Dannette! I can't believe there is finally someone here from Chatham as well. October is a great time to visit WDW. Great weather! There likely won't be any park hopper deals available at that time, so you can get your tickets at any time - even when you arrive. I work for Vellinga's travel and do a Disney night there twice a year. The next one won't be until September, but if you are interested in attending, let me know. I'd love to actually meet another DIS'er from Chatham.

Peggy
