Some friends and my family are going to florida on vacation. Our guy friend wants to go out fishing in the ocean. I have never done this or heard of anywhere to do this at. Has anyone ever fished out on the ocean? Where did you go and how much did you pay? Thanks!!!

Are you wanting deep sea fishing? Surf fishing from the
beach? A big charter with lots of people or a much more
expensive one that's private and concentrates on sports fish? How many of you are going
to fish? Where are you going to be in Florida? East coast
or Gulf of Mexico? North or South Florida? There are loads
of options and the cost really varies. We often surf fish which
simply involves renting equipment and buying bait then casting
into the surf -not too expensive. Private charters run hundreds
of dollars per person with usually a minimum of 4 people-you
bring all 4 people. Then there are the big fishing boats that take
several dozen people with poles hanging over the side-and I'm
usually hanging over the side too as they just get out and sit
there on the waves or very slowly troll. This is mid range cost-
I've paid $60 to $100 and it depends on how long. Half days
and full days are available sometimes.

yes have done it, deep sea fishing, many times.

Its great.

Some get a bit sea sick but it depends on you and who you go with

It can be an awesome experience

hmmm...I guess i wasn't very specific was I? I think he would like to go out on a boat for probably 1/2 day. He will have to rent equipment. We will be in orlando so we could either go to the gulf or the east coast
There will be 4 adults and 5 kids going. In order for all of us to go on the boat do we all have to fish?

Heck no you dont all have to fish. You can relax have a drink and sunbathe. That is most certainly what I would do!

kinda what i was thinking--that's why I asked!!!:smooth: :teeth:

For the charter boats here, some of the captains charge per person wheather you fish or not and some of them will even provide lunch for you. Some captains believe it or not, will not let you keep the fish even if you caught it, so you or your friend should check around to see what the different prices and rules are.

Fishing Charters are expensive, but you SHOULD fish. The charter captain will put the bait on the hook for you and even cast for you. All you have to do is hold the pole and reel it in when a fish bites.

Fishing in Florida is FUN! I never thought I'd like fishing, but there are sooooo many neat fish in Florida. We like to pier fish. We have caught snook, jack crevalle, tarpon, grouper, catfish (OUCH!), mackerel, toadfish, porkfish, bluefish, and snapper right from the pier. Offshore, most people catch grouper, tarpon, dolphin fish, permit, and sailfish.

The gulf coast seems to have more of a variety of fish, but it will depend on what time of year you go.

I think you should go to the Gulf side-Tampa and get a charter
out of there. Google fishing charters for Tampa and you should
get some good information.

You will love it - Just in case the water is rough - chew on ice - it helps with motion sickness.

Fish fry???????:teeth:

Surprisingly, if you feel sea sick, stay outside, on deck. I was shocked to find when I tried to go inside thinking it would help, it made me feel a lot worse.

Seep sea fishing in FL was a lot of fun and I was the only one who caught a fish!

When I was a kid, my dad and I fished off of one of the bridges in the Keys. Can't get much easier than that-no casting, just drop your line. Every time we put our hook in the water, we pulled out a different fish..Puffer fish, Parrot fish, all different kinds.

Of course, it was catch and release. :)

Where can you fish on shore? sorry if this sounds like a stupid ??? Is there certin places you go? Or do you just find somewhere and throw your pole out??

You can come to Hawaii and fish on shore :) we're going camping and fishing today, care to join us :sunny:

First of all you have to purchase a Florida Fishing Liscense and some fishing gear,,,,most Gulf Coast towns have a park with a fishing pier.

It will take a couple of hours(2-3) to drive from Orlando to the gulf coast...do some searches on different towns on the Gulf Coast, you will probably have to spend the night(??)
