DH and my 2 sons would like to go on a fishing trip while at WDW. I will enjoy the spa! ;) I can't find any information on these excursions. Can someone point me in the right direction? I don't have a lot of planning time. I earned this trip free from work and we are leaving 2 weeks from tomorrow!! WOOHOO!!!

sorry..I can't help you with the excursions... But wanted to welcome you to the board!!

The boats leave from Yacht Club.Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge.I know the Yacht and Wilderness actually have guides. There is a link on WDW website under activities I believe.

Most DVC resorts offer these, as well.

Maybe the Marina at Downtow Disney does, too?

Great to meet you... sorry I don't know anything about the fishing excursion, but welcome!

it's bass fishing. I just booked an excursion for my DH. You can book 90 days out. Cost is $250 for the boat (4 guests can go for $250) for a 2 hour excursion and includes everything you'll need.

Since we'll be staying at AKL, there's no marina there so we'll need to go to a different resort to pick up the boat. Therefore, I tried to find out which lake had the best opportunities for fishing but the reservationist was noncommittal so I finally picked the Port Orleans Riverside Marina (because the rest of our family is staying at that resort). Then the reservationist said they didn't have one there and I told him he needed to look harder :rotfl2: b'c the Disney web site said otherwise. He finally admitted he was looking under the wrong heading

They have 3 fishing times and you need to be there 15 minutes prior so keep in mind that it could be a really early day. Here's my estimated time line (which I'll confirm with the concierge desk at AKL when we arrive):

5:15am wake-up call
6:00am breakfast at Mara restaurant, Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL)
6:30am taxi to Port Orleans Riverside (POR) resort
6:45am arrive at POR marina
7:00am 'GO FISH'
9:00am return to POR marina
9:15am taxi back to AKL
9:30am arrive at AKL

my strategy is to book the first booking of the day so that we're not on the lake in the heat of the day as well as the fish will bite "easier" :worship: when it's cooler. (We're going in early May.)

of course, if you're not looking for a charter, you can just get a pole at POR and cane fish :dance3:

here's the Disney link you'll need: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/special/offerDetail?id=FishingPackageOfferPage

good luck and hope this helps.

tight lines.................

We went on this fishing excursions and I feel it was a waste of money.
Although we didnt have to pay for it I felt sorry for the person that did. My friend was getting married at the gf and there was around 5 boats that went out with everyone in our party. I believe that out of the 5 boats only 3 boats caught fish. The guide was super nice and he even gave us extra time to see if we would catch anything, but we didnt. It was fun though!!

what time of day did you go??? which marina did you leave from?

and are you sure the fish weren't on holiday?!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes and heartbeeps for all the information! That's exactly what I was looking for!!! YOU ROCK! :thumbsup2

To the person who didn't catch any fish....did you fish out of the Grand Floridian? That's where we will be staying, so that may be the best place to go, but I'd love a helpful hint of where the fish really bite! Also, what time of day did you go out and fish? We're used to fishing Lake Erie, where the fish like to bite in the morning and evenings, so I agree that a morning time may be best. Although, I REALLY don't want to go to the spa at 7am!!! I may have to rethink my planning!

Yes we went from the Grand Floridian. I think we went in the morning I dont remember what time it was. It was in 2006. It was a lot of fun though.. Dont let us not catching fish ruin your plans!!:goodvibes

We're leaving in less than 2 weeks. :cool1: I guess I better report back for you! :lmao:

Does anyone know if you can bring your own rod and reel for bass fishing at POR? My dad is a fisherman, and since we are staying there he wanted to know if he could bring his own?:confused3

my 2 angels - sorry no clue. i would think they'd have more of a problem with the bait/lure issue than rod/reel but you never know. You could always call POR and ask for the marina or the concierge and ask them. And, if the fishing rod can be "broken down" you could always pack it "just in case".

skipthebull - tight lines and GO FISH! I'll anxiously await the fishing report (i.e., what lake you were on, if you had a great experience, and if the female caught the bigger fish than the male!

I called POR today and asked about bringing your own rod and reel, baits, etc. and the lady said that it was fine. She said there is no policy against bringing your own! My dad will be so excited!! He loves to fish!:goodvibes

Did the 4 hr trip last May. Enjoyed every minute of the trip.

are you back yet? Did you get to go fishing? If so, how was it? Where'd you go from? what time? what kind of bait did you use?

We did it last year, March. Picked up at SSR and fished the canals around DTD. It was cold and windy. My brother was with us and he fishes A LOT. My brother's comments were: the guide while really nice, didn't know the water well and used the wrong bait. He said we would have caught more if we were using the correct bait and had a guide who knew what he was doing. There was 4 of us and only 3 caught anything. I know the you aren't guarnateed to catch fish, but it was very disappointing. I know that everyone's experience will be different.
