Fishing at WDW?

I'm not sure where to post this question, but as the WDW website lists some of the resorts as the place to fish, I thought I'd start here.

Has anyone done either the WDW Fishing Excursion or Dockside Outings? The web site listed the price for the excursions ($200-225)but not the Dockside Outings. My (adult) son is big into fishing and we're wondering about the whole experience.

Many thanks.

They will pick you up at OKW thats where they picked us up in January. They also will pick you up at WL, FW, BC. WE had agreat time my DD caught the biggest fish. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

I've always been curious about this too. (DS loves to fish) Share any info you've got. but my main ? is what do you do with the fish when you've caught it? not like you're taking it back to the hotel room and grillin it up...
Are these trips worth the money?

It's catch and release. WE caught 9 in January. It was a little cold whenn we went but still had a great time. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Our group did a fishing excursion from the WL this past summer. They went at 7am or something like that. It was 5 people per boat. They provide all the equipment and bait, etc. (and maybe sodas?). Anyway - all the guys that went had a blast. They loved it and caught some nice sized fish. (catch and release). I didn't go but they would highly recommend it!

I just called WDW Recreation to find out about the dockside outing they refer to on the website. This is cane pole fishing from the shore at Ft Wilderness, Port Orleans Riverside and Coronado Springs. Its catch & release, walk up only (no reservations required) and costs $3.75/hour or $8.31/day. They have poles, bait, etc available for rental/purchase at the marinas. It sort of sounded like this was for kids only, although the nice CM I talked to said there wasn't an age limit, and you don't need to be staying at the resort to fish.

The info from Frommers is great, too. Many thanks.

LOL kirkharrod - I just found and sent your review to my son! It sounds like the $215 is for the boat, not per person?? That makes it much more reasonable! Sort of like an Illuminations cruise? Were you successful in filling up your boat?

My family has done the fishing excursion at WDW twice. My husband, myself and our two teenage sons loved it!! We enjoyed it so much the first time, they all insisted we do it again the following year. We picked up our boat from the Polynesian the first time and the Contemporaray the second time. The cost is for the boat and driver, not per person. Everything was ready to go. They had poles, bait, soda and water. The driver was very nice and so helpful! We caught some nice size big mouth bass. The driver would grab the net, get the fish in , hold it up for pictures and throw it back in. My husband loved it because he actually got to fish instead of tending to the bait and everyone's poles. The lakes are well stocked and private so odds are good you'll have a good day. All four of us caught several fish each. Hope this was of some help. :cool1:

We found someone on this board to share the boat with. It is $215 per boat and you should tip your guide. They are paid a minimum Disney wage. We had Carrie. I would request her again.

My husband and son went on a pontoon boat from BWV last year. They made reservations the day before and had a guide. It turned out they were the only ones on the boat and had a great time.LT

My DH, DS and nephew have ressies for a fishing excursion in April - the boat will pick them up at the POLY at 6:45 am - everything is included - I think the early morning trips are just a bit more expensive - anyway - my guys are very excited about it!! We will report on it when we return....
