Are there designated areas for fishing? Where is it allowed or where is it not? Do they trading posts sell bait?

you can catch and release at all banks at the lake and canals. you can't fish docks, marina, or beach area. they sell worms at the bike barn.

You can't fish at the beach?????? I didnt know that....ya see, even us old timers learn something new on the dis!!!

Is there not a way to cast into BayLake other than the guided excursions?

you can't fish the beach area where the chairs are, you can fish down behind 100-200-300 loops. but there are alot of weeds near the bank which makes it hard to fish. basically you can't fish anywhere you might hook a person. are you going fishing in May?

Absolutely!....well, I'll be casting my gear...I rarely pull anything other than sticks, grass, bicycle tires, etc back out of the water. So Im not sure it constitutes as fishing???

I was wondering about this too. October will be our first trip to the Fort. I was wanting to take a couple of reels and some artificial lures. Anyone ever catch any bass out of the canals?

I never bother to fish there --- I've got a deal with the otters to trade beer for fish.

some small ones 12-14 inches in the canals but mostly Bream[sunfish]. you can catch some nicer ones in the lake off the beach. bring waders or old shoes to get out past the weeds. .Frank

we took our lil ones fishing near the pool and my youngest caught a sunfish after 2 hours of fishing and thats it!! Pretty much we will be doing better things this year!!

Hey, I'm from South Alabama. You can call'em bream, or bluegill, I'll know what you mean. I just thought if I had artificials, I wouldn't have to worry about bait. And those small bass are fun, and you have to throw' em back anyway.

We always called em Perch. But we only caught 2 types of perch....little, and none.

When i went in Nov i fished in the area where the lake spills into the canal behind the 300 loop i hooked 3 small bass on artificial baits ( fire and ice color )worms as mentioned before there is lots of weeds so you need either weedless baits or some heavy line to haul the weeds in there was some spots where i casted then when it got close i would rip it over the weeds you need something that you can cast a good distance like a weighted worm or some kinda hard bait that is weighted but doesn't dive to deep i saw lots of surface action just before dark but all was out of casting distance maybe i need a surf pole to get the distance lol:fish:

FYI - Keep one eye on the water and the other over your shoulder... I think may is prime mating season for the gators....

I fished down there last feb 14th 2007 - and had a cold front come through - morning was slow, but picked up with the sun... Tossed frogs and top water, had lots of hits and more misses..... fish around the corinado. If the water looks like it could hold fish it probally does. One thing that surprised me was how clear the water was.

AKA The Bass Assasinnnnnn:rotfl2:

I caught a nice bass several years ago in the canal near the swiming pool. I've caught several small ones since then. The large one took a watermellon lizard dragged through the weeds at the side of the canal.
The others took a Tiny Torpedo top water.

Does anyone know what time the bike barn opens to purchase bait? We are going in October, and I have two sons who would fish everyday if they could.

IIRC 8 am, if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

P.S. it is alot cheaper to bring worms or night crawlers from Wal-Mart.

Good to hear your boys fish.:thumbsup2
She's right,,better deal if you can bring your own worms. Twice the price at the bike barn, and you get twice the quantity at Wal-Mart.
