We haven't tried this camera, but my ds got a $20 digital camera for xmas from ILs. It is AWFUL. If the camera doesn't have a flash, it really is not worth getting. J was really disappointed w/ how the pics turned out but loved having a camera.

We decided to get him a nicer cam the day after Xmas w/ some xmas money we received. We spent around $90 and got him a name-brand camera, I don't remember which brand/model, similar to the Kodak EasyShare models. It was a nice little camera, we thought it was really sturdy... we get to Disney World, take it out of the bag (it had been in my backpack with my $$$$ camera) and it wouldnt' work! He was crushed and so were we.
When we got back home, we exchanged the camera.... after three of those cameras, (problem was mostly that it'd freeze, but at Disney it wouldn't do anything) we decided to get him the Kodak EasyShare CD33. It's fantastic! I even stick it in my purse and take it on short trips with us since my Canon 10D is rather heavy and bulky. Granted, I definately would not recommend this camera for a child under 5. My ds got his within days of his 6th birthday. I don't let him take it to school, but if I'm on a field trip w/ him, I'll let him take pics w/ it, and he takes pics around the house or at family gatherings. The pics he takes are hilarious -- although I definately wouldn't pay $12 to develop pictures of stuffed animals lol! I have a photo printer and will let him print some of his nice pics, or a few stuffed animal pics, just not all 30+ of them.
Definately keep all packaging and put the receipt in the box.
This is one of those things you get what you pay for. I know you're not looking for professional quality photos, but IMO if every photo is going to be dark, grainy, or blurry, the camera isn't worth a cent.
Good luck!
I hope you find the right one for your child.
