hello,

I am new to this site and been trying to locate a FE group for my upcoming Disney cruise. I don't know how to navigate the site and would love all the help locating some... I was recently linked to one but although I have posted a couple of times I haven't received a reply... Maybe ism doing it wrong HELP!

Cruise meet threads may also have Fish Extender groups. No reason there can't be more than one.

Not all cruise meet groups are very active. It's up to the people there to set up their own Fish Extender group, but not all cruises have them.
Often people can't be on the boards every day, and that slows things down, too.

I need to read the full policy, I didn't realize mentioning fb was against the rules too.
Thank you for pointing that out to me.
I've never been part of a DIS meet group that offered FE and I hate to see kids miss out but rules are rules so I will not continue to "help".

I have. And also been in DISboards groups that were really on another site, with the proviso that someone there would "keep us informed" as to what's going on (kinda like second class citizens).

I prefer the DISboards groups. If they don't take off, or don't have all the bells & whistles (Fish Extender groups/mixology/room crawls/whatever) they are just supposed to be a place for people on the same cruise to "get together" and discuss their upcoming trip.

I think there's too much emphasis put on "how much over scheduling can we do" in the cruise meet groups now, and not enough of "what are you going to see/do in XX port?" or "who's cruised before and can answer a question?".

There is a FB group with 180+ members. It's against Dis rules to post a link but it's easy to find and that's where you'll find a FE group.

This poster is just trying to help the OP find a FE group. I myself would love to find one on Dis, but haven't been able to via Dis Cruise Meets, either for our past 2015 cruise or for our upcoming 2017 cruises. If a poster really wants a FE group & can't find a FE group here, it would be mean not to inform her where most of the FE groups are now forming.

I hope more Disers will resume actively forming FE groups so that this doesn't continue being a problem.

I wish the FE groups would have stayed on this site too, as I have been here since back in the day when this is where they were. Unfortunately times and technology have changed and this board is not as active as it once was for FE groups, cruise meet pages, or even general questions. It is a bummer.

I'm not saying that Fish Extenders should ONLY be on DISboards. I'm just saying that, for those groups who want one here, they need to set them up here. There's no reason other sites can't organize their own FE groups. No reason there can't be more than one FE group on any given cruise.

In fact, I did 2 different FE groups, on two separate cruise boards, for the same cruise. There were some of us on both sites where were involved with both, while others (also on both sites) who only did one or the other.

But to post here on DISboards that "the" Fish Extender group is being handled elsewhere isn't right. If it's being done elsewhere it's not a DISboards FE group.

Yes, and that's the issue. That for many recent & future cruises, there aren't any FE groups created on Dis. I wish there were, but my experience, and that of many other posters including the OP, indicates that FE groups aren't frequently being created on Dis anymore.

My feeling is it's due to the lack of experience with such things among the posters here. When I did FEs there was a wealth of "old-timers" who organized such things. Now, everyone's just sort of "hanging around" wishing "someone" would organize them.

That, and the "my gift is better than your gift" mentality that has started cropping up in the groups. Time was it was just a little "trinket" sort of gift exchange, for fun. Now it's all about "who gave what to who" and making sure that everyone gets their name ticked off that they actually gave a gift. And it better not be an "oriental trading company"-type gift.

There's no reason a Fish Extender group has to be big, or have lots of people in them. I've seen FE groups of less than 6 rooms have a great group.

When a new cruiser comes to DISboards and asks "where's my FE group" the answer would be "here - (with a link to a DISboards cruise meet thread)" not directing them to another social media site. That's how it is on most sites, you can only conduct business specific to that site on them.

If they show up on FB and say "where's my FE group" then they would be directed to one (if they have it) on that site, not back here.

I always point out, when I answer, that not all cruises have a FE group, or indeed even a cruise meet thread. But, if there is one here that's where it would be.

That's the honest answer.

A FE group on another site is not 'THE' Fish Extender group, it's only 'A' Fish Extender group.

Oh I remember that thread! Someone was bragging about how she kept a spreadsheet to see not only who they received from but WHAT they received. And she waited until the last day to distribute to those she deemed "worthy" of her gifts. If someone didn't give, they didn't get. And if she deemed their gift "tacky" or "worthless" (Oriental Trading stuff or candy) , they didn't get hers.

If I'd ever had a desire to participate in one, THAT would have squelched it for me right there. I thought they were supposed to be fun! Not a case of the snobbies!

I'm so sorry Lgomez! I'm organizing the FE exchange here on the DIS for our cruise! I will go post over there now and add you to the list!
