It was suggested that I extract this portion from my trip report and post over here for any newer cruisers or maybe those, like I was this last cruise, that are participating in the F/E fun for the first time! Hope it helps!

Okay, wanted to share a few pics from our fish extender fun. I have to say, this was an amazing experience. I am a grown woman and still found myself rushing back to the room to see what goodies I had found. We got everything from stickers and candy to incredible homemade frames and scrapbooks. Here is a picture I took on the final night, keep in mind we only had adults in our room - I saw awesome stuff in some of the kids F/E too!

I delivered my FE gifts over a period of 3 days. I think the next time I will wait to deliver until closer to the end as it seemed like a lot of people delivered at the beginning.

Now here are a few tips I learned from my recent FE experience:

1) If you can ship your gifts ahead of time, do it - saves so much room in your luggage ::yes::

2) Be sure you have room in your luggage for the goodies you will receive. I thought I would have so much room in my suitcase since I had given away the goodies I brought, however, I had just as much to take home!

3) If you are talented and can make your gifts - they are so appreciated:love: . All gifts are awesome, and homemade ones are like icing on the cake!

4) Deliver your gifts a floor at a time - maybe one floor a day :faint:

5) Plan your delivery - either map them or organize by number - I could have saved some time by doing this :teacher:

6) Trip personalized gifts are awesome - some of the coolest gifts were items that were personalized with our cruise dates or motto (pens, notepads, etc) :thumbsup2

7) Fasten your F/E the fish with a zip tie - there was a report of a near F/E'napping on our cruise thread - I think personalizing the F/E helps too :scared:

8) Make delivering the gifts a family affair. At one point I could hear a cute family whispering outside my door as they had the kids put the goodies in the F/E :tiptoe:

Remember, when you do a F/E you will be the envy of many on the ship! :disrocks: I was stopped a couple of times asking how we got one of those and how could they participate! Of course, those folks have now been informed of the Disboards!

Hope these tidbits help! :cheer2:

I am very excited to see what other families will be doing on our cruise!

I will be having the kiddos helping me.

I definitely second the stretching out your delivery thing.
On our cruise everyone was (understandably) excited to get on with it, and almost all deliveries were done BY day 4. I was one of the last to do a drop an the evening of that day. The FE's hung lonely and almost entirely empty for the last three days of the cruise.

Another tip I thought of, when making your F/E putting a dowel or some kind of weight at the bottom really helps it to hang well. I saw some of the most creative options though. One of them was 3 potholders that were put together upside down - it was adorable!!! Loved that idea!

I am organizing our FE exchange and have assigned people to each day to ensure that we get something everyday! Thought I'd add that to the great tips here!:thumbsup2

I saw that one too! I thought that was a great idea! The pockets were solid so everything stayed in!

Thank you for posting your pic. I have been trying to figure out what to put in my FE gift bags and now I have lots of ideas.

DH and I had so much fun with the FE on our cruise and your tips are great. We were like a couple of kids looking through the gifts and delivering them.

One thing I want to add, is PLEASE make sure you officially join your cruise meet's exchange. While we were delivering our gifts, we noticed two FEs that were not on our list that were rather empty all of the time. Now they may have been part of some other exchange, but it is also possible that people misunderstand and just hang them up and then are disappointed. :( I wish I had brought some extra stuff, but I hadn't so we couldn't put anything in them.

Also the organizer of ours (Debbie, Dredrick) did an amazing job of making "maps". She sent us the deck plans with the rooms marked and it was something that DH raved about because it was so easy to find the rooms.

Thank you so much for the helpful tips! Our cruise isn't until next year, but its never too early to start planning!!!

Empty FE's how sad. :guilty: Maybe I will pack a couple extra something just in case I notice some sad FE's in the area of my cabin.

Here is a view of our FE filled up on pirate night!

That is a great tip - I also saw some that weren't on our list either and luckily I had a few extras that I dropped in. Also, one of the gals I was traveling with bought some little goodies in Cozumel (bracelets and maracas) and gave them to various folks including some of these - so hopefully that was fun for them!

Wow, what a lot of lovely gifts. :goodvibes

I think the Fish Extender idea is brilliant :thumbsup2 I am looking forward to doing it on our cruise. :goodvibes

Thanks for the tip - we have some new cruisers on the Christmas Cruise this year who were asking for ideas for Fish Extenders - so I'm going to point them over this way. I like the idea of having something extra to spread not just the magic but also to introduce people to the DISBoards :) I think I'm going to make some "business cards" with DISBoards link on it so whenever we get a question about it, we can give them a card with the info about how to get involved here!

I bet you will run out of cards on your cruise!:thumbsup2

Awesome door Brooklyn - that was my stateroom last week! :goodvibes

I ran out of time to sew our fish extenders, so I ended up making a personalized fabric patch to applique on a totebag purchased at a craft store. I'd never cruised DCL before, so I thought the fish was just a litle "knob" and I would hang the tote bag straps on the knob. Nope. Instead, I had to wedge the tote handles way down into the "clip" part of the fish, otherwise the tote bag would cover up the room number. So, I apologize to anyone who had to wrestle with my F/E last week... I think I heard some muttered cursing a couple of times... :headache: :rolleyes1 :guilty:

:rotfl2: No muttering from me! In fact it was nice meeting you when I was delivering your FE gifts!

Can anyone share the dimensions of the fish? I also purchased tote style bags and am thinking I'll need to add a bigger loop to the handle or something to get it over the fish!
