Hi DISers!

We have had many fun times watching Illuminations from the Rose and Crown restaurant at the World Showcase. However, the last few times we have gone the food, especially the fish and chips, wasn't very good. As I am not particularly fond of many of the menu choices (Steak and Kidney Pie is not my thing) so I was wondering if they have made improvements in the fish and chips over the past year or so.

They previously had the cruncy batter-type fish and what they had last time was a more soggy-batter large piece of fish.

Any one out there with recent R&C fish and chips experiences?

Thank you!
Inga

We just ate at the Rose and Crown this past weekend, we both had the fish/chips. We were giving it a second chance, before ruling it out completely.

The fish is still that one big piece. The fish is not flakey, the batter is not crisp. Rose and Crown has to be the worst restaurant in all of World Showcase. Definatley not worth the money we paid for lunch there. Won't do it again!

I agree! I love fish and chips, but they had the worst! Soggy and no flavor, and not the nicest of people we encountered in Disney, they acted like they were doing us a favor serving us. All in all I gave this place a thumbs down!

I don't know? I loved them in Dec. and will have them again in Nov.:o

We also had a similar experience when we were there in July 2001. DH and I were so excited to try the fish and chips, we ordered one to split with everyone as an appetizer. We were very disappointed...also soggy and greasy!!! We haven't been back since despite the good view of illuminations. I'd rather the take-out in Mexico.

I am curious about the "to go" stand in England though. Does anyone know if the fish is better there?

I think the fish and chips at the Yorkshire(?) to-go stand are great. It says on the menu it's snack size but was meal size for me...2 pieces of crunchy-battered fish with chips. Have them there every time I go!!! :smooth:

The children's portion looks better to me than the current adult version at R&C..2 or 3 smaller pieces. The adult portion used to be several smaller pieces and my family preferred that.

I don't know whether we caught them on a good day or all others replying caught a bad day but last March we ate in the restaurant part and the Fish & Chips were the best we ever had. Maybe all the Tennants I had before hand played a part!

I had the fish & chips in the R&C Pub, not the dining room, during our visits in January and June and found them to be quite good. This was billed as a snack size portion. I believe it was the same serving as can be purchased for take out (or should I say take away?) at the Yorkshire County Fish Shop. Price was less than $7 and ample for lunch for one or a snack for two.

My post sounds far more negative than I meant. My DH and I still always order the fish and chips there...just liked the smaller pieces better. What we really LOVE there is the fruit and cheese plate....love that stilton!! Two of our children always order the prime rib.

It might have something to do with the time of year and the crowds. I've had the fish and chips a number of times and always enjoyed it (Otober/November) and I'm usually a finicky eater. Last November it was so good I had it twice in the same week.

Just to be sure, though, I'll check out both the inside and outside versions again this November (I have a mission!!!). Of course, it always goes better with several pints of Bass Ale...
