As a SCUBA instructor, I love undersea life. I would like to see your undersea or aquarium photos. Fish, eels, coral, crustaceans, nudibranches, plants, mollusca, etc. Just about anything is game but please, none of those scary pool pictures I've seen floating around. My heart can't take it.

Try to include the common (or scientific if you like) name of the subject, if you know it. To start things off, here's a Copperband Butterflyfish.

This was taken at our local aquarium. I have a few UW photos I've taken diving but because I use a P&S for UW photos and live in the Northwest where visibility is not necessarily ideal, I get better photos when I'm dry. But, if you care to see some poor examples, visit my site here.

Here are a few from the London Aquarium. None are that great - its a really hard subject!

Beautiful pics all...

I only really two that I can add, taken from the shore.

I would think that these creatures, I call them jellyfish, would want to stay away from the shore, but what do I know... :confused3

I haven't done much fish photography so I haven't figured out the good tricks yet... here's a couple from the Strong Museum of Play here in Rochester. I only had a few pics that I found remotely acceptable and these are probably the two best, and I'm not super proud of them or anything... Both were taken with my Lester A Dine 105mm macro.

Actually, I almost forgot, I do like this shot from The Seas at Epcot. This was with the 50mm F1.4... the extra speed definitely helps.

I found these strange fish in The Seas, too. ;)

I think this is one of the most beautiful turtles I have ever seen. Loved the coloring. It is endangered because they were overhunted. They are considered a delicacy to eat. One guy standing nearby when the kids were petting it, had the gall to say.... oh you look delicious. UGH .

WOW!!! I am so impressed with the photos shown so far. I am happy to see how aware you all are in the beauty out there. In particular, the outstanding jellyfish shots you have gotten. I am still struggling with any good shots around here. The Sound does not present good opportunities for jellies nor does the aquarium (it's way too dark and they have them moving using a current.)

The (nurse?) shark looks ferocious. The crab shot is a great angle and sharp as a tack. And I have to agree the turtle is beautiful.

Thanks everyone for participating. Here are a few I'm happy with.

It is very hard to take these photos. Low light, relatively fast action of the fish swimming and no flash, scratched-blurry-fingerprinted tank glass all while waiting for the fish to get in a good position and hoping the kids don't bump your arms at that moment.

I feel you pain. The photos I've posted took numerous trips to the aquarium (thank goodness I'm a member.) There are still many exhibits which I have had NO success. Recently, we started getting there at opening and rush to the exhibits at the back of the building, which happen to be the dark ones. We are able to set up tripods and take shots for about 1/2 hour before the crowd gets too heavy. Maybe when tourist season ends, the crowds will lighten up and we'll be able to have more time to get those really difficult shots. You know, the darker tanks with the constantly moving fish.

There is one exhibit the may be impossible (but I'm going to attempt anyway.) The fish normally live very deep and their eyes are sensitive to light so the tank is extremely day. The fish are barely visible, but they don't move too much. It'll take a long exposure, even with a f/1.4. Once the crowds die down, I'm going after it. I'll post if I can get anything decent.
