After a refreshing swim and a nice nap on Sunday afternoon, we are ready for MK. Sue's boys want to ride the monorail also. We head to north depot and win bus lottery again. MK bus comes before Epcot so we take that and figure we will do the resort loop. We were planning to just grab food in the park but I suggest to Sue that we stop at Poly and check to see if we can get into Ohana. They say it will be a 20 minute wait. We get our buzzer and head down to look at the pool and the beach. DS says
"next time, I want to stay at this hotel." I tell him to start saving his $100s instead of his pennies, ha ha
The kids want to explore the gift shop but our buzzer rings after only 5 mins. Yay!!
I had been to Ohana with DH before and I was excited to share this experience with my kids and friends. DS and DD were able to get grilled cheese (they are quite picky). Sue's son Matt enjoyed the shrimp. Nick did not enjoy the food much and was somewhat miserable thru the meal. He did perk up at the coconut race. My kids loved this restaurant. DS 'thank you, mom for bringing us here." When our "cousin" called girls up to do the hula, he insisted on going too. They had quite the good time. For dessert, they all wanted the Beach bomb: snow cone in a bucket with shovel. Of course they all wanted their own. (do you know you can buy those buckets at Walmart for 88 cents??) $4.99 for one bucket snow cone dessert. Oh well, we are on vacation! Last nite, right? TIP: only buy one per kid, they are huge!
Back to the monorail to MK. Get there at 7:20 PM. Remember yesterday when I looked for park times in hotel and they didn't have them??????
Well, I forgot to look again today. Guess what???
MK CLOSES AT 8 PM TONIGHT AND THERE IS NO FW!!!
The security guard who checks our stuff is QUITE crabby and rude.
He says: "I don't know why you want to go in now, we close at 8 PM." When we express our disbelief, he rudely says: "People need to keep up with what Disney is doing!!!!!!" in a very loud voice. (I think his rudeness was inexcusable, but in his defense, he probably was getting this disbelief all nite long, because NO ONE seemed to know that MK was closing so early!)
Sue looks like she is going to cry and I feel terrible that I, as the Disney expert and planner, did not check park hours again. I also was responsible for us taking a long time and eating at Ohana.
We shake it off and decide for one last ride on Splash Mountain as it is something that all of us can ride together. Time Check: 7:30 PM. We run dragging poor DS as fast as we can to frontierland. Park is virtually deserted. It was really weird.
We get to Splash at 7:45 and wait time says 45 mins. CM tells us to go that the line is not really that long and that we will be able to ride as long as we are in line. As we stand in line, we listen to others voice their disbelief that MK closes so early. It had been open till 10 PM the previous nites. ( I hadn't looked up park hours on internet for Sunday prior to leaving because I thought I would be half way to Pgh by then
)
We get on Splash Mountain and thoroughly enjoy our last ride at MK. We sing along especially at Zippity Do Da. (sorry to the older couple behind us). We beg the CM to let us stay on for another ride. He laughs at us and says he would if he could! He did not know park closed so early either.
By this time it is 8:20 and we decide to meander out slowly and take lots of pictures. We all enjoy the castle with the lights. We go to the shops and spend the last of our money on souvenirs. More pins, more pin trading. Buzz lightyear figures to go in the very loud buzz lightyear spaceship (this was the bribe for getting my son on Splash the other nite: it is quite loud). I bought myself one thing: the mickey ears edging scrapbooking scissors. (scrapbooking fans only will understand the joy at finding them).
We say good bye to the castle, the magic and main street. DD and I at least know that we will back soon. ( DS still doesn;t know that I am taking DD for her 10th birthday present).
Sue can't wait to come back with her DH and kids and show him the magic.
Good Bye MK! See ya real soon!
