We are thinking about a surprise trip the first week of January. Wondering when the Christmas/New Years crowds start to leave. Anyone know what we should expect if we arrive on Jan. 1 (Sun) and stay through the week?

We are going to be there the over New Year's and the first week of January. Since Monday is the legal holiday, my guess is that most folks will leave that day as kids will go back to school on Tuesday. There will some reduction in the crowds on Sunday, Monday will be an improvement over Sunday, but I think it will be Tuesday before it really quiets down. Having been there several times on this same schedule, the early part of January is a great time to visit.

Hi,

You can expect crowds to be quite heavy on the 1st and 2nd, and from then on crowds will be very light.

The following weekend is Marathon weekend but that has little to no effect on crowds in the parks. Hotel rooms will be booked and the approach roads to the MK and Epcot will be very busy on Saturday and Sunday morning (Jan 7 and 8) but most attractions will be walk-ons.

Enjoy!

This was our experience the year we were there for New Years. I would definitly go that time of year again!

I am going Jan 2 through 7 -- but you should know that there are a lot of schools out that week. I suspect that it will be busier that week than later in January. Just thought you would want to factor that in to your planning.

Out of school here until the 9th and running in races, so making a week long visit out of it. I'll bet other running families doing the same (and race is twice as big this year). Expecting it to be alittle busier than last year because of the schools that are out. We experienced that extended holiday in 2002 and the parks were much busier than normal.

Still beats summer visits :cool1: Just hoping it's warm :sunny:

Will be there 1/2 to 1/9 & suspect the same thing. Hope we are both surprized by light crowds.

We have gone twice during that period, and will be there again this New Year's. It is a great time to go. The parks are still made up for Christmas at that time. As some others said, it will be very crowded on New Year's Day, and then get less crowded each day. In a few days you almost feel like you have the run of the park. The temperatures may be anywhere from the 40's to the 80's, but will likely be fairly mild.

Hope to see you there!
